Borderlands 2: Game of the Year Edition Crashes on Start up

I just got a copy of Borderlands 2 which played just fine after I downloaded it yesterday, but is refusing to work today. I've done clean installs of drivers and the game, but nothing seems to work. After I hit play, it goes fullscreen, blacks out, and then crashes with an error message that say's "a problem has caused the application to stop working correctly". I've tried verifying the files through steam, which finds one file error and tries to fix it, but it doesn't seem to do anything because if I run it again it still finds a file error. Do you guys have any suggestions?

My pc specs are:
i7-4790k
8gb G.skill Sniper Series
Gtx 980 Sli (one EVGA and one PNY reference model)
Asus Z97-AR
Samsung 850 EVO SSD

Uninstall the game and then reinstall it and maybe that'll fix the issue.

I've done that, and it didn't work. Still gives me the same error message.

There is an issue with downloading the Physx driver. You'll need to get it directly from NVIDIA here:

I just downloaded the physx driver, but it aborted the installation stating that what I already have is newer.

Have you tried running the game as administrator?

Ok, I think I linked the wrong one. Restart your pc after installing and before running the game again.

My apologies... Please, try this. We may need to adjust the compatibility as well. Right click your desktop icon for the game and then click "Troubleshoot Compatibility"

If that doesn't fix it you can change the compatibility manually.

Oops, I apologize, I should have included that. I'm running windows 8.1 pro.

That did it! However, it doesn't seem to stay when I exit and try and re-run it directly from the desktop. Is there some way I can get it to load up without having to go through all those files?

Well, you could create a shortcut by right clicking on the binaries file, hovering over the "send to" button then clicking "create desktop shortcut". I realize that's probably not the answer you were looking for but it'll work while I see if I can track down why it's reverting. It shouldn't. I play Fallout: New Vegas this way and I've had no trouble with it.
