what can i do just to mess around with my computer? i don't really play games, and sitting there looking at graphs while stress tests run have outlived the novelty value. my budget is 0, i'm not going to buy anything until my next paycheck.

I'm thinking about:
1. Lapping something. Anything.
2. Putting TIM on gpu/nb heatsinks.
3. case mod: either fitting a fan to the side vent, or installing a front fan by removing the empty drive bay panels (3 full size bays open.) I have an extra 15cm fan that I can use. but, my case right now is laquered black, so it's going to look ugly. i tested it with a 20cm floor fan, and i would gain about 5C mobo/gpu cooling and 6C cpu cooling. i removed my 20cm side fan to install my core contact freezer, but i figure i can reinstall it with the fan on the outside of the panel if i want. again, it wouldn't match my case color, and wouldn't be protected by a screen.
4. OC'ing my graphics card (8600 GT. woo. zoom.)

If you have a spare comp submersion cooling is a great project that doesn't require much money. I have done this several times and always found it to be fun. Plus it really freaks people out :kaola: .

You could also try dice or LN2 benching. Although LN2 can get pricey if you don't own a dewar.

i'm sorry but whats the point of owning an uber high end system if your not going to either

A. do intense work like photoshop or CAD,

or

B. play games

Heh i used to think like you. Well, a lot of people own cars who've never gone at the car's maximum speed either, and that is probably weird to car enthusiasts as well.
