I have the Asus CM1735 and both audio jacks give off static noise but you can still hear the music. its not the headphones because multiple headphones do the same thing and i think its internal because both the front and rear jacks do it.
under windows sound control and realteck audio control are the volume set to mute where the audio output is so low you cant hear it.
have you tried the newest audio drivers?? if your mb is a few years old the audio chipset may be going bad.
is the audio mutted?? on onboard sound that when you can hear most of the grounding issues. (if it not the sound chipset going bad it could be dry caps on the mb or in the power supply your picking up.).
