Hi, I have/had 2 EVGA GTX 1080s that smoke when I try to turn on my pc. This morning I was playing Siege and my computer just completely shut off and I smelled a burning electronic smell so I instantly unplugged it and did research and figured my power supply was screwed.

I bought a new power supply and I installed it and I plugged it in and it turned on for like half a second then turned off. I smelled the same burning smell and I took out both cards and it entered some kind of boot loop ( probably not related).

I then tested one graphics card and it smoked from the power connectors, and it happened on the other one too. Can someone tell me what the heck happened and why? I have no idea how 2 graphics cards die at once yet everything else is intact. I can provide more info if needed. Thank you.

The graphics cards were evga 1080 ftw edition cards and I've found posts of them going up in smoke and the serial numbers match with the affected ones. I was never notified of the issue but I'm also wondering how they both break at once

There aren't any 860w EVGA units that I was able to find, but there are 850w models. Is it one of these 4?
-850 BQ V1: Not that great of a unit: https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/evga-bq-series-850w-psu,4842.html
-850 B3 V1: Not so sure about this one. JonnyGuru site gave it a passing score: http://www.jonnyguru.com/blog/2017/09/04/evga-850-b3-850w-power-supply/
Tom's Hardware testing with them wasn't as smooth: https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/evga-850-b3-psu,5186.html
-850 B2 V3: Couldn't find any reviews of that one specifically, so that one's up in the air.
-850 B2 V1: Same deal as V3 on technical reviews. The difference between this and V3 lies inside - don't do that.
I resorted to Newegg and Amazon reviews on this, and it's not great either; another mediocre unit. V3 has to be a revision of this unit that likely fixes some of it's issues.

It was already too late for the Corsair psu to do anything; the damage was done.

Yeah it was an 850w, can a faulty power supply only destroy graphics card and not anything else? Thank you. Evga said nothing about the power supply and just talked about sending an RMA in without any possible explanations as to what went wrong
