Its time for a gfx card upgrade and I don't want a large bottleneck between cpu and gpu.

My cpu is an Intel Core i5-3330 Ivy Bridge Quad-Core 3.0GHz (3.2GHz Turbo)
My current Gfx Card is a 650ti 1GB.

I want to upgrade to the 1060 (6GB) as I think its the most bang for your money. I will wait until a black friday or cyber monday sale at newegg.

I want to be able to utilize all or most all of the power the card can output without limiting what the computer can handle because of my 3 1/2 year old cpu.

I think I am pretty good with techie stuff like this but want to see what others with more experience and knowledge with cpus and gpus have to say. I dont want to buy a card that I cant use most of the power it can produce basically. Which card is better for my build 1060 6gb or 1050 ti 4gb.

Thanks!

Solution

1. VRAM is fine on both cards. No mid-range card needs more than 6GB anyway. Did anyone complain about the 6GB 980 Ti? No.

2. Crossfire is a valid point but not many games take advantage of CrossFireX and the increased heat, power draw, etc. doesn't really make up for performance gains.

3. DX 12 will take years to be optimized for most games on the market. Even in DX12 the RX 480 narrowly beats the 1060 while in DX11 (most games) the 1060 beats it by 10 percent.
Well the GTX 1050 TI is a great performer card for the money but just below the GTX 1060. However I'd take the RX 480 8GB over the GTX 1060 6Gb. Its got more Vram , supports crossfire and supports Vulcan. Leaves both of these GPU's in the dust in DX 12.

Solution
Eh there are so many more features on the RX 480 then the GTX 1060. In DX 11 they go win win, give or take either one GPU losses or either the other GPU losses.

1. Vram is also handy to have. If your playing games like Skyrim and adding tons of mods then it comes in handy. GTA and other games just eat Vram so like i said its nice to have. I was playing Gears of War 4 yesterday and saw it using 77% of my 8GB of Vram.

2. Crossfire is very scalable. Two RX 480's put the GTX 1080 on it's heels. As long as your not crossfiring two reference GPU's then your heat and temperatures will be fine.

3. Games like Doom and Battlefield 1 are getting huge boosts. The more and more titles we are seeing that are being released have DX 12 support and get huge gains from it.
