Hi all,
My mum recently bought the sims3 for her dell inspiron 540 even despite me telling her that with the built in intel gma that its got no hope, so I thought I'd help her out by buying her a decent video card in attempt to get a performance increase for the game.
As a kneejerk reaction I went and purchased a geforce gtx260 and headed down to her house to install it. When i got there i was pleasantly not surprised to find that the video card needed two 6pin power outputs to work, which the current power supply did not have. So I went back out and bought her a power supply that did (I believe its 800watts or something) it _just_ fit in her case, powered up okay, the drivers installed okay, but there was nil performance increase.
The specs of her computer is a core2duo 2.2ghz, 1gb ram, 667mhz FSB. I know it's a dell and its probably quite low end in terms of peripherals used, but I'm wondering that since the minimum requirements of sims3 is 1.5gb on windows vista, and since she has 1gb thats the only real bottleneck in terms of the minimum system requirements for the game itself... So would buying a 4gb chip see an adequate performance increase? Or have I fallen down the rabbit hole of replacing everything else?
Also, would using 800mhz ram be okay even though the fsb for the mobo/cpu is 667?
Thanks
