Hey, I just got an HD4870 in the hopes of playing Crysis on mostly high/very high. And for fallout 3 and Far Cry 2. Now when I play Crysis, My comp is still getting murdered. I even auto detected and it gave me all medium specs. I thought I had a pretty decent rig, but my performance is nearly identical to when i had 8800gts 320mb. Something is Wrong and I need help.

-Core duo E6300 1.86 ghz (my suspect, i even tried a simple OC to 2.10ghz and it wasnt stable)

-CORSAIR XMS 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200)

-GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3 LGA 775 Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard

-ENERMAX Liberty ELT500AWT 500W ATX12V SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Modular Active -PFC Power Supply

I'm still in the low/mid 20's in fps. same res. something by 1024.

firstly crysis is very CPU dependant as it needs alot of CPU power to process all the data that pass through the graphics card and also the extroadinary physics inside the game. the DDR 400 along with the 1066FSB wont provide enough bandwidth for all those data to flow pass at a fast rate.PCI-E 1.0 is the oldest PCI-E 16x available when you look at the 4870 is PCI-E 16x 2.0 now.

so your rig is totally bottlenecking.sorry to say but its the truth.

Your CPU is a bit slow, the rest is fine. Read some of the overclocking guides and see if you can get some more out of it. If not pick up an E2xxx or E5xxx series Pentium-dual core and OC that for a budget approach.

PCI-E 1 at x16 is plenty of bandwith, and DDR-400 is nowhere near a bottleneck.

B-Unit DDR400 is a bottleneck in an intel system with FSB 1066 of the E6300 at stock. your AMD is totally different in memory subsystem you should know that. DDR400 with FSB266 will give a huge latency which will affect the system alot.

I tried to overclock before but it doesn't work. I took it to 2.10 GHZ (going from 266 to 300) and windows booted. But I tried to run Crysis and I got BSOD, and then when I rebooted it went to the regular clock.

Prime95 also had some kind of rounding error within the first 30 seconds of running the torture test.
