i also believe that once it had a pentium 4 processor inside of it and was taken out and replaced with the celeron cuase on the case it says Pentium 4 inside

And soon to have its rightful P4 back in it 8)

Some of you guys are not the nicest. Instead of making the OP feel bad about their purchase, why not try and help them accomplish (fully or partially) their goals set out for this machine. It's kinda fun makin older stuff run decent.
I agree, its only fun though, personally i like messing with old stuff and good on ya for helping him out, best o luck with the rig Gadzookie, dont take it to heart :)

There's still one thing that troubles me about this computer, and that's the speed of the Celeron in question. If this is truely a socket 478 Netburst motherboard, it must be using a Netburst Celeron. The slowest Netburst desktop Celeron was 1.7GHz. 1.3GHz is just too slow. Even if the reseller put a mobile Celeron in this computer, 1.5GHz would be the slowest possible. Intel's S-spec finder lists no socket 478 Celeron, mobile or desktop, running at 1.3GHz.

Are you SURE the CPU is running at 1.3GHz?

it said on the paper 1.3 i never really checked :-( i dont have acess to the computer until the weekend so i have to wait till then

500 aint bad.... would this be your only PC?

I would suggest this rig:
AMD Athlon X2 3600+2ghz AM2 $70
Gigabyte ATX mobo (forget which one) can OC $85
BFG 7900GS from Frys for $99
Coolermaster Centurion 532 for $50
FSP AX450 PSU $60
Kingston 2gb ddr2 667 $70 plus 45 off because of combo w/cpu

TOTAL: $430 bf shipping, excluding OS and monitor.... thats pretty much as cheap as I can get it... sorry

You know what it is not a total loss. I say play around with it. It is a good way to learn about computers.

I really knew very little about computers back in 1998. I had a computer place build me one and they charged me a bunch for labor. Well I figured that I could do that it didn't look that hard to work on. But I did not want to mess with the one that I just had built.

So I went to my local state surplus and picked up a few old pentiums for about 10-20 bucks each. I took them apart switched parts around. Loaded in operating systems. Down loaded drivers etc. and really taught myself a lot. Now I build my own systems.

So there is a lesson learned in everything we do so don't feel too bad about your purchase it should just create a desire in you to learn more so you will know better next time.
