Just as the title says. I bought a ASUS GTX 1070 STRIX open box. I didn't notice it at first, but I was messing around with my PC tonight and noticed the SLI connector has a chip/indentation on it. Hardly visible unless I zoomed in. Will this effect any functionality or stability? Or is it purely cosmetic?

It's unlikely to cause problems. That chip isn't really near any of the traces and it's not even deep enough to severely damage one even if it was.
Components are much better built than we give them credit for. I have a 960 that literally can't sit flat on the table it's so warped, still stable and benches like any other small form factor 960.

If it really bothers you, depending on what you're reciept lists the product as (how prominently it says open box, and etc) you might be able to just RMA the card.

Thanks guys! It's been working fine. That was the only blemish I noticed, in the pic you can see 3 areas. One thats semi hidden towards the rear. I doubt i'll SLI two 1070s ha. But I guess I can return to Fry's if I decide it bothers me or not.

Well you did buy an 'open box' product.
If the product is working as intended i doubt it would quality for RMA.
The chips are on the edge of the board, not actually on the SLI fingers.
You can see a little bump where the copper tracer actually starts and the chips aren't big enough to damage them.

Yes, I did buy a open box. It was the only one left on sale for 419, i got it for 399+320 store credit I got. So i took my chance and let rolled the dice. But the only option in that price range was the white dual 1070 with no back plate.

I still have 30 days to return.

most likely didn't even fit in his case so he returned it. my guess is that it was someone with a prebuilt pc trying to breath new life into it...
