Bought another 8GB stick of ram and after installing OC failed

I have a computer I built back in 2015, I originally only bought 8GB of ram but I finally decided to buy more as that is not enough anymore. My specs are as follows:

• 
  i5 6600k
  z170 Pro-gaming
  GTX 980
  Crucial Ballistix Sport Ram Two 8 GB sticks
  Noctua DH-15 Cooler

I have my CPU overclocked from 3.50 GHz to 4.50 GHz and it runs smoothly, I also have my ram overclocked from 2400mhz to 2800mhz with 1.3 volts and it seemed to run well, but after adding the 2nd stick today the OC failed and would boot in 2133hz till I put 2400hz back in the bios instead of 2800.

I am not any professional when it comes to PC configs so I am not sure why this happened or how to fix it.

you did fix it, unfortunately, RAM is just like a CPU or a GPU. you can always overclock and just because one stick will OC the other on might not. 2400 is an oc and if that's where it will work that's where you might have to use it

Even with the same exact sticks of ram?

Even then for overclock they reccomend buying it in same pack
