Box monitors better quality?

I've been using a box monitor I purchased in 2002 until recently, it stopped working. I purchased a flatscreen monitor just this year and found it doesn't play videos as crisply as my box monitor did (videos look like VHS quality now). Is this typical? I watch DVDs on my computer a lot and I'd prefer to watch them on a monitor like my old one that played them with crystal clarity.

if your flatscreen monitor is a low quality lcd monitor then yes it will look shitty

old, box monitors had one upside is that it had unmatched contrast and crispness.. lcd couldnt match it

then the new IPS panels came in and made the old box monitor complete obsolete

IPS LCD flatscreens have life like picture quality and vivid colors with high contrast ratio..

i assume your LCD isnt an IPS panel
