The way I read it, to get speeds above 1 gig you have to use copper. I don't know why the 1.33 is cooler than the 1.2 though.

the reason this is such a big deal to me is that i could get a retail 1.33 for $220 or i could go down to my local shop and get OEM for $250

just so you know man, you are only fretting over 1-2% perforance increase of copper vs. aluminum. i would just go with whats cheaper, because it isnt worth it to worry yourself over 1-2% especially at such high speeds.

I agree with Antipop on this, since nobody seems to know which t-birds are copper, so dont worry about it. Your fretting over $30. The current t-birds seemed to be close to maxed out Mhz wise anyway. Can you live with your current system until Palomino comes out? It should be a good overclocking cpu. Or wait for Northwood.

Where did you get that from? -- The 1.33MHz T-bird does NOT run cooler than the 1.2MHz part -- it produces about 10% MORE heat than the 1.2MHz, and that's according to Tom (as well as other sites)!

You guys just chill. I know I got that info from somewhere. It's either anandtech or tomshardware. I don't talk to 'know-it-all' wannabe's and I don't take everything down here for granted. I will search for that when I'm free.
Did someone recently read the 1.1,1.2,1.33 reviews? I'm too young to start losing it, I think...

Here you go:
http://www4.tomshardware.com/cpu/01q1/010322/athlon1333-02.html
It says:

Handling

Athlon 1333 turned out to run surprisingly cool. Keeping the core voltage at the official 1.75 V and without the requirement of an above-average cooler, it happened to be very overclockable. 1466 MHz at 1.75 V were no problem whatsoever, which is why I included those results into the benchmark runs as well.

I hope you like eating your words <me so bad> (sorry I just had to say that)

it says:

Copper vs Aluminum
The 1.2GHz Athlon, just like its 1.1GHz predecessor will be manufactured exclusively in AMD’s Fab30 plant in Dresden. The only CPUs coming out of the Dresden plant are using Copper interconnects, and as we’ve mentioned before, AMD happens to be using a blue polishing die at their Dresden plant which gives these CPUs a blueish tint to them.

In contrast, the Durons as well as some lower clocked Athlons are still using Aluminum interconnects and are thus manufactured out of AMD’s Fab25 plant in Austin, TX. Currently these CPUs coming out of Fab25 exhibit a greenish tint to them, once again due to the polisher, however we have seen cases where the tint appeared to be more of a red, as was the case with our Duron 800. AMD has assured us, however, that the Durons are still only being produced at Fab25 in Austin and are thus still using Aluminum interconnects

What you are saying is very reasonable. But Since I read these articles (I know they're probably old news now), I supplied the links to prove what I said.
Cheers.

try searching a post made by stable within 6 months in the cpu section. i think he gave a clear enough answer.make sure you get the first cpu section and not the second one

Axion has a 1.33 266Mhz Retail Box for $215.95, but I can't say whether it is in stock or not (website says to call).

Here is the link:

It should be the third from the bottom...
