I heard about this a few weeks ago in theinquirer.net. I think that they only recently began selling the "ghetto" version 9800P, so if you've owned your card for a while then I wouldn't worry about it.

I just noticed this as well.

If you look at prices though it should be obvious that you're getting the 128bit version. It's $160 something dollars.

Yup, it is a bit old news, but still important to spead the word. What I haven't seen is actual benchmarks of the 128-bit 9800 Pro's. I'd like to see where it falls into place compared to the R9800 and R9800SE. Anyone seen benchies?

It's pretty bad when a company tries to pass off one product as another. On the other hand, while most of the blame should be placed on Sapphire, I also believe that ATI should step in and put an end to this. It's bad of them as well, not just Sapphire.
While we are playing the blame game, let's blame (to a much lesser extent) the retailers that are going to be passing off this garbage as the real deal.

So those $200 Pro cards from a few months ago (they're at about $210 now) were 128bit versions?

Just buy at reliable vendors. At newegg you can find both versions and you can see CLEARLY which one is 128bits. And no, the $200 9800Pro we have been seeing are the 256bits version. At least from the vendors that I usually look at.

But yes, I am tired of all these half versions, trought enabled pipes, reduced bits, crappy RAM, etc. etc.


Still looking for a <b>good online retailer</b> in Spain :frown:
