So I just put together my first computer, using the specs given here: http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2646367/build.html

Thanks esco_sid!

Note: I used the first option without the external video card.

I turned on my computer for the first time and BIOS asked me to set it up. I went into the motherboard and looked at my hardware diagnostics. I noticed I have 2 CPUs according to that and that one was running at a 'cool' 34 celsius while the other was running at 64 celsius. That's only the 'yellow' range but seemed hot to me. So I wanted to see what you guys think.

Note #2: I haven't installed an operating system or anything yet.

Do I need to re-apply more thermal paste and re-seat the heat sink? I put about a pea size amount in a blob in the middle as many suggested...

Thoughts and suggestions are appreciated! This is my first build.

Thank you.

Hello,

Just to clarify you have one physical CPU in your machine.

What CPU cooler are you using?
Did you apply any thermal paste or use the stock paste on the cooler supplied?

I would remove, re-paste and re-sink the device. Ensuring not too much paste is applied, as too much also gives the reverse effect. Also ensure there is enough pressure pushing down onto the CPU from the heat sink.

Let me know the out come. Should be idling/load at 30/48.

Thank for following up. I have one physical CPU and Intel i7. I'm using an NH-U9B special edition SE2 cooler. I applied the thermal paste that came with the cooler in just a pea-sized portion in the middle of the processor.

I'll re-apply and let you know.
