Hey guys, I recently built my first PC with the following parts:

- MSI M5 z170a gaming motherboard
- Intel i5 6600k quad core processor
- Gigabyte GTX 1060 G1 Gaming eddition
- G skill ripjaws 2X8 GB 2133mHz DDR4 memory

- EVGA super nova gold standard fully modular power supply (550W, my build needs about 330W)
-Samsung 750 evo 250gb HD
-Western Digital 1TB HDD
Cooler Master 212 EVO
Asus dvd drive (who cares about this anyway lol)

I have seen youtube videos of virtually identical builds playing the game Over watch "ULTRA" settings at 120 FPS. In my case however, I struggle to get past 40 FPS with frequent drops down to 15 ( ON MEDIUM SETTINGS!).

My HDMI is plugged into the graphics card and all my drivers are up to date. I even went into the NVIDIA control panel and adjusted everything within reason to "increase performance." Is there anything I could be missing that is causing my horrid frame rate?

Solution
Are you using afterburner for your video card? It's not just for overclocking, it has alot of info to offer you. Try using firestrike benchmark see if that tells you anything. Have you gone in to your bios settings to make sure everything is set up as you wish? Also go to device manager and make sure the video card is being used for video gaming and not the cpu. And while in there might as well go line by line and check for driver updates. And is the motherboard bios up to date?

sounds like thermal throttling

the cpu cooler may have not been properly installed, are the fans spinning?

check cpu temps while gaming

CPU temps don't go past 40 degrees C. Fans are spinning and cooler is properly seated. I even checked the power management settings on windows 10 (apparently it is a common problem). I'm stumped :/

do you have DSR enabled? make sure it's at 100% scale
