I recently purchased a brand new Mushkin Pilot-E 2TB m.2 NVME SSD from Newegg. This is to be a fast, portable, and compact SSD for photo and video storage so I also purchased a NVME USB 3.1 enclosure from Amazon (confirmed that they are both m-key compatible).
I plugged the m.2 drive into the enclosure and then into my PC via USB type-C port. The drive popped up but I got the "Not Accessible. Incorrect Function" error code. It does show up in Disk Management, but there are no options to create a new volume or format the drive. I did try to use Type-C-to-Type-A adapter but that didn't help. There is a little red light on the m.2 drive's board that may be a debug light but I can't find anything on the manufacturer site about it.
My guess is either the drive is DOA or the enclosure is crap. What are some non-hardware troubleshooting steps I could try? If all else fails, my last resort is to take my PC apart and plug the drive directly into the mobo but I have several components in the way.

Ryzen 3600
MSI X470 Gaming Pro Carbon
MSI 2070 Super Gaming X
