Brand New PC Build Won't Turn on, i7-6700k

Howdy Folks,
I put this part list together on PCPartPicker for my friend: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/FPwRYr

Compatibility is all green on the list. I've got one build under my belt and helped him via Skype put together all the parts. We got everything together, and plugged it in.

Press the power button, absolutely nothing. No fan spin whatsoever. Also, no diagnostic lights or beeps from the motherboard at all either.

We ran through the gambit of troubleshooting; (unplugged GPU, unplugged everything except CPU fan and mobo cables, tried both sticks of RAM, made sure all cables plugged in, ect ect).

My friend is currently getting a hold of a new PSU to see if it's that.

I am guessing it's a PSU thing, BUT my question is this: Is there anything in this list (particularly the Mobo / CPU combo) that is actually incompatible? I know the compatibility filter on PCPP isn't infallible, but by every measure I see nothing seriously incompatible enough to make the computer not turn on? Is the voltage too low on the PSU? I realize the CPU is perhaps not the OPTIMAL choice for this build perhaps but would it really brick the machine?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

It was the PSU! Surprising really, I have a Corsair myself and this particular model has stellar reviews. But my friend managed to get an EVGA at Microcenter, hooked it up, and it runs fine.

No it wouldn't hurt that board. The 6700K's compatible with it.

PSU or motherboard leads come to mind. The Power button lead connects to two metal thingies(sorry for the technical wording) is that is backwards or if it is connected to something else there will of course be issues. Polarity is correct?

I hope you two get it figured out. The time when that power button is about to be pushed for the first time is a singular feeling indeed. When it powers up and works? Beautiful.

If he has a multimeter he can test the PSU to see what it is putting out and if it isn't putting out the expected voltages it is faulty.

Things to check:
- The switch on the PSU near the plug port is turned on (sorry if this sounds condescending, just need to start with the basics
- The power switch is connected correctly to the motherboard, per page 1-25 of the manual:

- Both the 24 pin and 8 pin power connectors are connected to the board

Stupid question, I see the switch on PSU is on, but isthe power cord connected 100% into power supply?

You can always do a paperclip test on the psu, DIsconnected 24pin cable from board, take paperclip and jumper from green wire (pin 16) to any of the black ground wires (consult wiring diagram if ALL wires on 24pin are black).

Thanks a ton for feedback you guys! Seriously.

We've done all the "check that the switch is one, check that the cables are plugged in". But, the case power switch being plugged into the right pin (and polarity) on the MoBo may be an issue I can have him double check.

I haven't had him jump the PSU which I'll also try and report back. Thanks everyone!

It is almost definitely a psu problem, try with a different power supply, also try with a different power cord. Is there any chance that the psu is not hooked up properly? try reinstallinig it.

Update!

As it turns out, it WAS the PSU. My friend (who fortunately lives near a Microcenter) bought an EVGA PSU and hooked it up, bingo. No issues whatsoever. Installed Windows 10 and it's running like a dream. Thanks for the help everyone!

Glad you worked it out and thanks for sharing the fix! I'm using a Corsair in my pretty similar build and didn't have any issues so you might have just had a bad one.

Yeah it was weird! Corsair is great, I have an RM650 myself and it's always been totally rock solid. But I guess sometimes they're DOA.
