Hello everyone!

This is my first post and sorry if this was in a wrong section of the forum :)
Yesterday I just purchased a brand new external hard drive Seagate Expansion Portable, its working fine when I'm plugging it in to my PC, then i tried to run SeaTools for Seagate, somehow i got notifications that the USB Not Recognized and the device no longer showed up on file explorer.
Tried to unplug and plug it back in it works normally, then trying to launch SeaTools again, same problem exists, checking on device manager the usb has a warning icon, tried to restart pc then plug back in the hard drive, the problem gone, even on the device manager showing no problem at all, tried using other usb port, hard drive works properly with no problem whatsoever without launching SeaTools. My question is:

1. Does this has to do with the SeaTools software that causing all the problem?
2. Does removing the hard drive while in "USB Not Recognized" state harm the hard drive? Since it cannot be safely removed or ejected.
3. The hard drive has been checked with crystaldiskmark and hard disk sentinel all completely brand new, showing no problem at all 100% everything, but there is something I'm confused about read error rate showing current 100 worst 100 threshold 6 raw value 625488, does the raw value should be 0? I'm using 10 DEC value.

I'm sorry for my bad english, and sorry for a confusing explanation.
Any answers would be appreciated, thank you so much!

1) Why were you trying to use SeaTools? There may be a different method to use without using the software (I'm personally not a fan).
2) It can possibly but it would take EXTREME amounts of unplugging/re-plugging, etc. to affect it and it wouldn't affect it physically unless you caught a bad current when plugged in (which rarely happens).

SeaTools clearly isn't jiving with the drive for some reason. You're better off simply formatting the drive via DiskManagement and not even using it.

Hi, thank you for answering!
1. Just wanted to check the drive i though using the factory tools would make it simple but instead it causing too much trouble, so do you think this could be caused by SeaTools?
2. Ah i see, I'm just doing it slowly and 2 times only since I'm scared that would be causing a corruption or anything, do you think it would cause corruption or bad sector? and did you have any suggestion if next time i came across the same problem how do i safely remove the hard drive?

1) It sounds like it especially since the issue goes away when you close SeaTools, unplug the drive, and then plug it back in.
2) I think you're fine. I've done it hundreds of times to mine (because I'm impatient mainly) and haven't suffered any issues.

Ah okay, so, what do you think, is it safe to use my external hard drive now? I need it so bad but in other way I'm scared that my data would be corrupted.

Yup, use away just don't use SeaTools as it clearly is not playing right....it could be a drop onto the drive so if you insist on using it, download the latest version from the Seagate website but I can attest there are better alternatives.
I think i might stay away from SeaTools, btw thank you so much!
