WD My Passport Ultra does not work right out of the packaging

take it back. You didnt pick up the Mac version did you?

I took it back. It did not show up on any operating system. We tested it on 8 computers running various operating systems.

Any drive they sell will work on both mac and pc.

WD and Iomega both make Mac edition drives. They are still normal external hdd's but they are just preformatted in the Mac filesystem: hfs+ instead of fat32

Windows wouldnt be able to see the contents of those drives but should show up in diskmanagement
