Bricked after bios update through device manager

While trying to fix a bluetooth problem, I updated all drivers through device manager but after this one, it died. after the bios update the lights are on but that's it. I expect to have to replace the MB but can't identify it. My system is an Acer aAspire ATC 120 UC22, A-10, 6700 CPU w/ BT. Can anyone help me identify it or help me attempt to rollback the update? The links found here for MSI seem dead but I don't even know if that's the correct manufacturer.

Did you try to update the motherboard BIOS or are you referring to driver updates through device manager? If you updated the motherboard BIOS, what did you use as this can't be done through device manager to my knowledge. If a power-off and reboot is only showing lights, and you sure a BIOS update was complete, you could try removing the motherboard battery for a few minutes and reinstall to clear CMOS.

Well, to be honest, the phone rang when I was doing it so I can't be absolutely sure but it was a system driver & it was through the Win 10 device manager. I read on another website, 7forums, I believe, that to fix the BT 1st update all drivers & that's what I did, until...

I will try that as soon as I log off this old pc & will let you know what happens. I had expected that it was fried & now have hope, thanks.

Thanks, that worked! I had tried everything I could think of but I hadn't removed the battery. You saved me the price of a new MB, assuming I could find one that worked w/ the other equipment I have.

Not exactly, after I rebooted it won't start again. Now, it's power light & HDD light blinks but won't do more than that so It looks like more than that. I checked the device manager & it showed a Lenovo update, not acer, & I removed that before restarting. There seems to be an issue w/ the Device Manager driver update being confused or something else is going on. I'm busy today but will try again later this week. I really appreciate your help & if you have any other suggestions I can use all the help I can get. I used to work in software but retired & am getting too old & don't remember everything to try.

Have you thought about trying a system restore at this point, due to driver uninstalls and re-installs? Possibly even a Windows "refresh" if your using Windows 8/8.1 or 10. What version of Windows are you currently running? Regarding driver updates, I've never used device manager method, as it's pulling drivers it can find from Microsoft Update servers. I always stick with getting driver updates directly from the PC manufacturer's site, or the motherboard manuf. site for a home build. In your case, I'd be getting updates direct from ACER. I do find it odd you would have Lenovo showing up on an Acer, unless you had a lenovo peripheral of some sort. Did your PC come w/ any recovery media? If not, there's likely a recovery partition on the HDD. Some systems require you to make recovery media when purchased, but honestly I haven't seen these in awhile.

Well, if the phone hadn't rang then, I'd been paying attention & wouldn't have done something that stupid. I'm running Win 10, upgraded from 8.1 & Acer doesn't support Win 10 on this model & I've used the DM before for years w/o incident when trying to fix problems. Probably just lucky but that's why I was looking to find what MB this thing uses, I'd rather use generic than branded but I got a really good deal on it, cheaper than I could build but... BTW, there is no Lenovo anywhere that I can find except for the BT headset but could that be my problem? Is it looking to fix the BT issue but I can't see how that's possible, can you?
Right now, it doesn't look like it will boot at all. I'm creating a Linux based boot disk & will try to boot from it later today. That's step 1. What I do next is a ? right now but I'll try anything but I've got to get in first then maybe reset. I think I've backed up everything.

OK. A Linux boot distro is a good idea to make sure the system is functioning. Do you mean to the BT device you've been trying to get working is a Lenovo brand? Even though, this shouldn't prevent booting all together, crashes at the most. Do you have any USB hubs plugged into your PC, as these can cause boot issues for some. When your saying it doesn't boot at all now, are you referring to lights/fans on and a black screen? If so, a bootable linux disk isn't going to help. Does the battery removal not get you up and going again? For accessing Windows 10 reset, you would either need the recovery media, or get to the login screen and hold "shift" when selecting restart. This will give you an option to reset your PC back to factory install of Windows 10.

I took a few days off with this. I wasn't feeling good & didn't need the frustration.

Removing the battery doesn't help & as you suspected the boot disk didn't either. The only things working is the power light flashes, as does the HDD light & the CPU fan is spinning. No beep codes, no monitor (power button remains amber, as if asleep) & that is all I know. It isn't possible for a PC to remain in sleep mode upon rebooting, is it, because that's what it seems to be.

I'm assuming power supply is good. I've checked memory, CPU, & cable seating & no issues found. All reboots are with nothing plugged in except power & monitor.

You have removed and reinstalled all cables, memory modules, ect? When you reinstalled the CPU, were there any pins that looked damaged? I didn't reseat the CPU so that is unknown. My logic was that it was functioning fine & wasn't touched in any way but I will look at it. Do you know any way to test the PS or MoBo by themselves. If so, maybe I'll start w/ nothing at all & work up (assuming I get that far).

You can try the paperclip test regarding the PSU. This procedure can be found on a quick google search. However, your system sounds like it is powering up. Do case fans currently spin as well?

There are no other case fans just a lot of vent space & the CPU fan is huge.

Well, I thought it was. I'm researching how to test the MoBo & after I'm ready to test both I'll set it up & do everything I can. I wish I had a KVM switch but I don't. Probably tomorrow.
