I have established that my port forwarding problems have arose from my modem being a router as well. I know that I must put my modem into bridge mode to turn it into a modem strictly, but do I need to specify my router in someway as well? Or will it work by default settings?

Solution
Bridge mode by default will pass off the traffic to the next available device that can handle it (your router/firewall). If there is an option to manually specify (I know AT&T is sensitive with this), there should be an automatic option there and that should be good enough. If not, use the MAC address of your router/firewall and it will redirect to that.
