Hi guys, I'm planning to turn my laptop into an entertainment PC and i'm going to overclock it with an egpu setup. The problem is that there is a large gap between my laptop cpu and the custom heatsink im installing on it and I'm torn between using thermal pads or filling the ~1.5mm gap with thermal compound/paste/grease. Does anyone here have any idea what my options are for this project of mine? Many thanks in advance and all advice is welcome.

Hey, thanks for the lightning response. I had a feeling it was a lost cause, I'll tinker around and see what I can do to bridge the gap without stressing the mobo.

EDIT: As per your request atomicWAR, I've uploaded some images so you can see the mess i've made so far.

Use 1.5mm thin copper pad (thermal paste on both sides of it).

Ahhh you beat me to it. That's why I was asking for a pic to see if it would work. Anyways there is one idea for the OP.

Hi SkyNetRising (sick username btw), I didn't even know they made copper thermal pads. I'll definitely take a gander at those and see how soon I can get them.

EDIT: Just purchased some copper pads from eBay and they're slated to arrive sometime next week. I'll keep you guys posted as soon as I have more information. Thanks again.
