There is a fundamental oversight in the article: Brillo is not competing with the mbed OS at all: Brillo is about processors with 32 MB or RAM. mbed OS is about ARM cortex M processors of about 32 KB or RAM. A 1000 fold difference of memory capacity, means that these are completely different classes of OSes and processors.
