simple question: where is the best place to purchase a monitor in the UK? if it makes a difference i live in cardiff, though i expect most answers will relate to web-based / national companies.

I've used Dabs.com to purchase two monitors in the past. Both times I was satisfied with the service and delivery. And their website is a hell of a lot better than some of their competitors.

hmmm ... thanks. dabs has been recommended to me by friends as well.
by way of answering my own question i've found that www.pcpro.co.uk has a nice 'shopping' area that compares prices from several sources. its proving quite useful.

Just out of interest, what monitor size and brand are you thinking of? I want a 17" LCD but they're too damned expensive, so I'm thinking about a 19" CRT. The iiyama VM Pro 454 looks good.

as it happens i've opted for the iiyama VM Pro 452, the model down from the 454. i considered the 454 but the extra speakers and USB ports didn't seem worth it; in built speakers are usually useless, the USB not critical, and the extra 2Kgs is undesireable. otherwise the tube is virtually identical.

i'm using a VM Pro 452 now (at work), and i can recommend it. its nothing compared to the higher-end products, but its good value for money as far as i'm concerned.

That's a useful observation, thanks. In the past I've ordered two CTX monitors from Dabs and they've used Interlink couriers to deliver. Always on time and well packaged.

Unless LCD prices drop like 50% before Xmas, I'll be getting the iiyama. I'll compare the two versions before I make any final decision.

Well as it happens www.softwarefirst.com are doing a good offer at the mo...the Hercules Prophrtview 920 for 484 Pounds... Not to bad when u consider thats a 600 pound Monitor. Its LCD and 17 inch ands its looks likes the dogs bolloxs 🙂

Ive erd very good things bout it and im considering it myself.

Not too sure on CRT Monitors the illyma pro 454 looks good but cant stand that boring beige monitor design especially when im building a rig thats gonna look like a prop out of the Matrix 2
