You can limit your friends usage by setting up maximum upload and download values on your router. If you don't know how to do it call your internet provider they help you out.

What is your friend doing, downloading a lot, watching movies online: that would slow down.

Depending on the model of your router: you can maybe manage it directly.

search on google with the model of your router and you should get instruction on how to do that.

But yes, as others have said here, you can use some management within the router to limit the use of the system for other users.

Setup the router to only allow your "friend" access at certain times of the day, say 7:00pm to 7:15pm. My VirginMedia router allows this via MAC address.
