Hi, got a asus motherboard , i was installing a cpu cooler then i accidently broke it off, the cylinder was right next to the cpu , the pc starts and runs no problem

Solution
It's a capacitor. Solder it back on if you can. Running without it may make the PC unstable, or have out of spec voltages and ripple through to the cpu, which will eventually cause the cpu to fail. Get it fixed ASAP.

Its like if i pull, say, the air filter off my car. Sure it runs without no probs for now, but it is letting in debris and dust into the engine which will cause a problem sooner or later and permenant damage to the engine.

alright thanks alot dude , also i started the pc started just after building it and when i turn the pc on it turns off after i boot up windows , and the cpu gets very hot because i dont have a cpu fan on it yet because im waiting for it to come in the mail , my cpu is q6700 , but do you think its from the cpu getting hot ? because i got told that pc's turn off when they get extremely hot? do you think its the missing capaciter? or cpu getting too hot? im getting the capaciter back on today
