Something fell out of my mobo, a black square with 8 legs (it doesn't move :) ) has a sticker on it with "g41m vs3 rev2", some legs are bent, i pushed them back and inserted back the thing into its place, it works so far. I would like to know what is that though. picture:http://postimg.org/image/4h1vyyxn9/ hope the link works, the thing is circled red.

Solution

Bet it's one of these, or close to it. That's a BIOS chip. Anyway, as I said, if you've pressed it back in its socket and the board is running fine, you've no need to worry.

With traditional glue, wont it do more harm than good and where should i apply it, will it prevent the voltage passing? i think i socketed it back stable, but tiny pieces of the leg might broke into the socket. I removed my oversized videocard r7 260x, dont even want to talk about its issues, and that awfully placed thing broke.

I have the same mobo type, but it looks a bit different, Its a web image, i dont have anything to make a good photo with or even put it on the pc, im sorry.

My real concern is to identify it now, maybe i can buy a replacement at a few penny, or maybe i dont need it at all (i wish).

Nothing in the manual, the one picture it has labelled with parts doesnt even find it important enough to draw it on.

So you think i can simple replace it or fix it, just read the component id or something on it and ask for it in an electric shop? I definitely dont know what soldering means.

I did break it :) well im not sure, it fell off, it shouldnt simply fell off... I have to agree with ijack, if its there then it has a purpose.

Soldering is a process in which two or more metal items are joined together by melting and flowing a filler metal (solder) into the joint, the filler metal having a lower melting point than the adjoining metal. Soldering differs from welding in that soldering does not involve melting the work pieces.

i reccomend getting a new motherboard if you dont even know what soldering is , its something which needs alot of skill i mean normal things are soldered with a soldering iron but for tiny chips like that you require a microsoldering iron which is quite accurate, i mean its your first time you will mess it up and it could be dangerous so just get a motherboard off ebay

Cant i just bring the pc to a service? I cant buy a new mobo, then i would have to replace the cpu too, i never did such thing, i have no money either, just bought a r7 260x gpu (in november) it's random freezes were a pain ever since, I'm currently in a fight with a webshop for replacement (second time) for a gtx 750. I changed the gpu like 6 times for the past two months, even had to reference a topic from the site so they would believe me.

Agreed

What exactly a pwm controller do? Based on wiki I get something like it transforms voltage to communicate with components and send data between them. How can it work without the chip?

ok so here it is you know when intense heat is applied to a metal it partly melts , well people do this to repair laptop gpus when they overheat and it does sort of desolder and resolder yours is desoldered you just need to get it resolered

how would i do it on a budget well step on take out mobo and clean off any thermal paste then put it in the oven wait for the chip to solder to the board when its done leave it to cool for an hour i know people do it to there pc gpus but never heard of it being done to a pc motherboard but to be fair it it happens to laptops all the time then your mobo should handle it too

Do you think asrock support might be able to identify it for me for sure or they wont really care about my problem?
