hello,

i have a ATI AIW All in Wonder Radeon graphic card

but i have a big hardware probleme to solve

a microchip is detached from the card, unsoldered and i have to solder it again
it is just 0.5 centimeter long and it has 8 pins to solder them again

it is, in fact a CMS component that is requiered precise micro-solder of O.5 millimeter

i have all the tools to solder this microchip again to the graphic card but i have never done this before

and i can't do a mistake involving a definitive breaking of my graphic card

also i need some advices to help me solder correctly since the first time without any mistake

maybe i have to peek up the rest of solder on the graphic card first, to clean it, ... ?

what is the exact procedure to solder a CMS micro-component ?

my tools are:

CMS solder 0.45 millimeter
pan 0.5 millimeter
unsolder band of 1.5 millimeter
micro iron solder of 14 Watts
a loupe X9

someone can help me ?

thanks a lot for everyone who can help me

Glue component back on board with some good epoxy ( minute amount) making sure the glue does not cover any of the elictical contacts. Get some rear window defroster repair kit solution. With a toothpick carefully reconnect the contacts. Test and if working correctly cover the spots with the defroster repairs with nail polish. If unsuccesful, remove the soluiton and try ty again.

i doudbt i can fix it just with some glue my 8 pins chip
even if it's work fine 1 day, what about 1 month, 6 months ?
(& diff temp(15°-40°C) work against iron material & glue)

but thanks for the advice

I would like to Invest for my PC !!
ok, buy nothing.

epoxy might actually work my friend.
sometimes they do use epoxy to mount some components...
you might want to try it...or at least you could use the epoxy to mount it, and then solder the leads...but the epoxy would sure hold it down good enough to solder it!
