Broken bios chip controller , repair or buy a new laptop

Hi everybody,

I have been using an MSI FX 420 notebook for just a little over two years. Two days ago it suddenly died without warning. I had it checked out and they told me that the motherboard is basically fried and the bios chip controller caused it. The rest of the components ( i5 processor, 8g ddr3 etc) are still working.

Specs:
Intel HM65 chipset
i5 2410 processor
500gb S-ATA
AMD Radeon HD 6470

Should I opt to have it repaired? Or just buy a new laptop?

I would like to apologize before hand for asking if this,as it may sound like a stupid question.

I have very little knowledge about these things and secondly, I have a limited budget for the repair or potential replacement.

Is this problem repairable at all or would the entire board need to be replaced?

I appreciate your insights on this.

generally the whole board needs to be replaced. speak to the repair shop and ask them how much it would cost to repair and get back to us.

They said they could try to repair the board but the chances are 50/50. The replacement would cost about $350 and would take a while because the replacement board will be ordered overseas. Its very frustrating.

keep your money, save up to about $800 and build your own pc. it is very fun, easy, and it has many benefits.
