Hope you can help me. So far i have been unable to find a solution for my problem.
First of the Hardware involved:
MSI 880GM-E41 motherboard
AMD Athlon II X4 640 3Ghz Cpu
8GB Kingston Memory 1333
Asus AMD HD 6670 GPU
Windows 7 Ultimate
Now for the problem:
Couple of days ago I noticed that my PC wasn't running like it is suppossed to do. Games and programs were slow and laggy.
Turns out the CPU speed didn't go higher than 2.2 GHZ.
After looking further i found that the CPU multiplier in the Bios was set at 11, allways kept this on auto as i never OC'd this Pc.
So i set the multiplier to auto again and saved and rebooted. Checked Cpu-z and was again on 2.2 with multiplier reading 11 again. Range of multiplier was given as 4-11 while it should be 4-15.
So set it to auto again and after reboot it is back on 11.
Setting the multiplier manually to 15 saves ot correctly but for some reason results in an instable system.
The only time it shows correct Cpu settings is after i cleared the Cmos. Then it reads the Cpu as running on 3Ghz(200×15). After reboot it's back on 11.
What i tried so far:
Turned of every power saving setting i could find.
Multiple clear Cmos with jumper and battery removal. Also changed battery just to be sure.
Reflashed bios several times with latest version for this Motherboard.
Disconnected every thing except ram and cpu.
Removed cpu and cleaned every fan heatsink in the pc. Reaplied thermal paste.
Idle temp cpu is 26 degrees celsius and stressed 47/48 degrees celsius
PSU is working correctly as far as i can tell.
Vcore = 1.2
3.3V = 3.32
5V = 5.02
12V = 12.07
Memtest shows no errors on the ram.
Only thing i can think of now is to try and find a different MB and Cpu and see what happens when i swap cpu/ mb.
Hope i explained it adequatly and really hope you can help me find the cause/ solution for this problem.
