Broken Hard Drive?

Hello,

My IDE hard drive doesn't appear anymore. Device Manager on Windows 7 won't show it. Device Manager in XP won't connect when it is plugged in via an external enclosure. The unit will show up in BIOS, and when I plug it in via an external enclosure, the "Remove Hardware" system tray Icon appears.

Any suggestions? Should I try the freezer trick?

on the external encloser does it show up in device manager? it could be as simple as having some dead sectors at the start of the drive. get a diag program like pc check or pc doctor or MHDD to run some tests on the HD. find out if its physically dead or just some bad sectors.
