Broken temp gauge on case?

I just a new comp with a Apsire-X case. It come with HD and CPU temp outputs on the front of the case. For some reason when i first used the computer i never put the CPU gauge to the processor, i just hung and it worked. Then i put it under the heatsink and it doesnt work now, just come ups blinking 00 or --. Anyone have any ideas why, is it broke?

Wait, under the heatsink? Did you put it between the heatsink and the processor? Don't do that! There should be nothing between your heatsink and your processor except thermal paste.

Its probably overloading the temp gauge or something.

no i took it out and now it is just hanging in the case, but still not working correctly.
