How do I get passed this error? we have tried unplugging several
times. I am running XP pro and have had no issues since we hooked
this printer up 8 mos ago.

Error 41 means there is a major problem with the printhead, usually
requires a print head replacement. My advice is to take it to a
Brother service centre while it is under warranty. If it's out of
warranty they are usually a throw away job.

Hi, Illkey,

I am under the impression that you are very familiar with Brother products.
I have a Brother mfc 8500 All-in-one. It works very well. I see one
problem. It cannot print "multiple copies" of Adobe Pagemaker (v. 7.01)
files (pmd). Regardless of how many copies I click, it only prints out one
set. What could be wrong on this? Satoshi

I have a 5100C, and the infamous error 41.....There was some postings
last year about how to clean the print head....but...in my machine
the carriage for the ink cartridges is retracted so that I can not
get to the ink cartridges. Does anyone know how to overcome this????

I have the same Brother MFC-5100C with an error 41. This happened a few years ago after I used cheap replacement ink instead of Brother ink. The repairman told me that it had more water in it and that eroded the printer head. He replaced the head and it worked fine for another 2 years - until, I ran out of ink and needed to print something in a hurry. I still had some of the cheap ink, so I used it (I know I know). Within 3 weeks, I was back to error 41. So I guess the moral is, use the manufactorers ink - it is more expensive, but at least it doesn't ruin your machine. Hope this saves someone some trouble and frustration.
