I bought a Brother Printer MFC-9340CDW a few years back and it worked wonderfully as a home office printer. But it suddenly started doing something really strange. When I try to print any black at all, it just prints black lines down the entire page (see attached photo for an example). No matter how much or little black I am trying to print, it does the same thing every time. Even when I print with color, the color shows up fine, but the black lines still show up. They almost look like a calibration page or something.

I tried asking Brother Customer Support, but they said they hadn't seen anything like this before so I gave up after all they could tell me was "buy a new drum" even though the problem persisted even with a new drum bought and installed.

It's a really nice all-in-one printer, so I don't want to scrap it, but without being able to print any black, it kinda doesn't have any real functionality. Has anyone ever seen something like this before? I'm kinda at my wits end to tell you the truth.

Thanks!

Solution
Well I fixed it. I did 3 things, not sure which one of them did the trick.

Turns out the toner cartridges were in the wrong order. Don't know how that happened, I suspect my ex-wife as she was to change the toner. I also slid the green tab on the corona wire on the black toner cartridge, but I am almost positive I tried that before. And finally I updated the Firmware to the newest version.

Either way, problem solves. Crazy that it was that easy.
Most likely either the transfer belt having some issues, or more likely, the toner waste disposal box is full and thus not allowing the toner to ever get fully out of the drum.
Setup the printer on a network, then access the printer administration pages to check the supplies status. if either are long-in-the-tooth, check those options out. Easily replaced, and the toner box you can easily remove and visually check as well (and not saying you CAN do this... but you maybe CAN empty the toner out of that to reduce the level... maybe, if you wanted to do something totally unsupported). Also make sure the corona wire cleaning is done, but I'm thinking one of those 2 parts are past their lifetime.

Hello,
1, You can try these steps to clear the black lines printing issue with your Brother printer.

2, Wear rubber gloves take a lint-free cloth, surgical spirit and a soft paint brush and clean the rubber rollers on your printer.

3, If there are any toner particles stuck in the rollers, hoover it out.

4, If your printer has a transfer belt, wipe it with a lint-free cloth.

5, If none of the solutions help, you will have to change the transfer rollers or belt.
