Browerless Windows 7 E Edition Likely Canceled

Browser Ballot screen is the only logical way to go. As many have pointed out, how do you download the browser of your choice without an internet browser to download with? I remember when sites used to offer download through an anonymous FTP server, does anyone do that anymore? Not that the average joe would know how to do that.

Why not the same level of antitrust regulation in regards to the OS? How easy is it to buy a PC with Linux in Europe?

"In the wake of last week’s developments, as well as continuing feedback on Windows 7 E that we have received from computer manufacturers and other business partners, I’m pleased to report that we will ship the same version of Windows 7 in Europe in October that we will ship in the rest of the world."
What negative feedback? Every American seems to support the idea of browserless for Europe. They picked Socialism so let them feel what living under Socialism is like. Long line outside Internet cafe with black-market Win7 so they can their 10 minutes online.

I think some would like to have a browser-less Windows 7 here in the states. But honestly, why couldn't Microsoft just give them a browser-less version. PC Manufactures like Lenovo and Dell love to load the crapware on their computers any way. It would just be an option on thier website as to which browser a customer wants installed. Just like they currently do with Office, etc.

Peoples here thinking that Explorer is a good thing... shame on you... shame on you...

You know that everytime a window is not responding is because of explorer? MS has merge internet application and computer browsing with the same damn tool... at least if it was a decent tool...

Firefox is a 5 meg application running better than the... 100 meg patch that is Explorer 8.

I disagree with you redgarl. IE8 works very well and starts in a fraction of the time that it takes FF 3.5 to launch.

"You know that everytime a window is not responding is because of explorer?"

Riiight ... it's NEVER the website?

This move by Microsoft is not surprising. The EU is catering to (protecting?) users who are not clever enough to download a second web browser like Chrome or FF.

How would they ever manage to figure out FTP?

[citation][nom]ssssss[/nom]How can I download Firefox (or other browsers) in the first place if there is even no IE installed?[/citation]

Micro$haft won't get rid of the ie engine completely, it's supposedly embeded into the operating system. In previous versions of windows, AFTER you uninstall internet explorer and delete the leftover fragments, you can still open windows explorer and type in a web address. people need to stop being ignorant, this never was a big deal and never deserved to garner the attention it's been getting.

that's exactly the problem people don't know how to actually use a pc.

I think you're confusing explorer with IE... they're different processes!!!

Yes if a windows stops working in windows you can solve it by going to the task manager and kill the explorer.exe process but IE is another processes completely different it appears as iexplore.exe!

get informed before saying wrong things!!!!

It was dumb to start with and just got dumber. Microsoft gets sued for including it's own browser in their own OS? Dumb. Ship an OS with no browser? Dumb. Having to promote your competitor's product? Dumb. IE isn't some great browser, people should be able to use what they want, but no one should be telling Microsoft to promote Chrome/Firefox/Safari unless Google/Mozilla/whoever makes Safari are forced to promote IE. Which, yes, would be dumb.

Funny, on my machine Firefox loads, hmm, 4 seconds slower than IE, and on my friend's Toshiba it loads, hmm, 3 seconds slower than IE!

Get out from under the 2004 rock.

Is it just me, or am I confused on how you can get sued for a FREE product.

Last I checked, IE, Mozilla, ect were free. Too many people want to get paid for free crap.

If you had to pay for it, this story would be totally different.
