So im going crazy here. A few months ago my CPU load started going 100% when i use ANY browser, without any real reason,i use Chrome but the same thing is on IE/Firefox i can use internet more or less but its super laggy, especially when watching VIDEOS. So before i start getting Sherlock responses like "dude reinstall , clear cache , scan for malware bruh" - things ive done : i reinstalled all browsers, scanned for malware and viruses (yeah in safe mode, and with different scanners) ,i deleted/reinstalled audio drivers, mouse drivers, flash, java, video card drivers (tried the most recent drivers and tried roll back to old drivers) , i tried disabling plugins/extensions and forcing to use html5, i checked my cpu/gpu temperatures, turned off/on hardware accel... im not a super PC user , but usually i can fix any issues after a few hours of Googling , but this is f****** killing me.

Honestly, this isn't a recent PC, the T4400 was launched Q4 of 2009, and it wasn't top of the line, even then. After about 6 years, it's possible time has taken it's toll on the processor and you might be getting performances issue. If nothing worked when you verified it in terms of software, then it's more than likely hardware related. I would honestly say that it's time to change it. I don't know when you actually got your hands on that laptop, but it's getting old. Low-end hardware usually tends to show signs of old-age after the 4th year, sometimes fifth. You said it yourself, you can usually fix issues yourself, and after a few months, the issue is still there.

The one thing I would maybe recommend is making sure you have the latest Bios update version. You didn't mention it, so I thought you couldn't go wrong with trying that.

Well the main weird thing is that 100% CPU load occurs ONLY when using any browser , i can use Photoshop/Illustrator , i can use Fender Fuse + GuitarRig etc.etc. and while using some stuff like GutarRig might get CPU load to 80% if i Run it with Fl Studio , i open Chrome and CPU load skyrockets to 100% even with one tab , so i think that there's something hogging CPU or maybe browser doesnt release memory or something like that.
(i mean i totally agree that its old af but i dont think its hardware, i checked - bios is updated)
(another weird thing is when i open youtube for example CPU spikes and then goes down, more or less , but when i start moving my mouse it goes up again, i uninstalled/reinstalled mouse drivers but nothing changed, tbh i dont know if thats even weird)

I see you have IObit, i would recomend you remove that, just makes you pc slower...

and since you are running a integrated CPU it uses some power too, so that means when you look at movies it will spike a little to render the image or whatever it is called :p

I know that I was getting weirdly high usage with browsers when I started using Windows 10, and I found out it was because of ''Defender''. It's Windows' basic antivirus or whatever, and made my CPU usage reach around 80% with only Firefox opened. It disabled itself when I installed a different antivirus and I've not been having problems since.

Make sure neither the Bios or Windows are set to some ''Power Saving'' mode, obviously.

And your videos are displayed through the GT205, not the CPU. Again, normally, I'd think of a possible defective GFX card or even PSU, but that doesn't work, because you're not having more issues with other programs...

I'll keep thinking about it, maybe something will come to mind...

Hi, how have you resolved this problem? i have the same problem. I noticed among the various forums that this specific problem of browser that exploit the CPU at 100%, all date back to 2016. I read online that there is a technique for hackers exploiting the heat of the computer to block the machines and access them , you know something about? Thank you Thanks Pippo

I also have the same problem. Only browse the internet with ANY browser will cause CPU memory usage skyrocketed to over 80-90%.
If I close out the browsers (Chrome, IE, Firefox) then it goes down to 15% of so.
My laptop has 8GB RAM and 128SSD, so it is not hardware issue.
I am use Windows 7, clean re-installed Windows 7, nothing else. But no luck.
Upgraded to Windows 10, no other applications installed, still CPU memory usage still go up to 90% or so when browse the internet. GRRR!!!

I have the exact same problem. Started a few months ago. Even in safe mode, i have tried everything listed above and then some. Sometimes it goes away on its own for a few days/hours and then back to molasses. Only when any browser is open Seems to go away everytime I try something different such as a different scan tool. HELP!!!!!

I had this exact same issue on a Thinkpad T460s, i7-6600U CPU @ 2.60GHz 2.7GHz 8.00 GB RAM. Any browser caused CPU usage to hit close to 100% and really slow down my entire laptop. Tried uninstalled recently installed programs, malware search, etc.

WHAT I FOUND, which was one of the last things I checked; was power settings.

I didn't really think about it, but I'd changed my power settings to maximize battery life. So I reset power settings to default settings and boom! Speed was back!

Not sure this will help with other make/models, but fixed my issue.
