Earlier on I used a German VPN in order to access something anonymously. Now, even after uninstalling the VPN, uninstalling google chrome and reinstalling and a few other attempts, my google chrome opens to the new tab page but with "Google Deutschland" instead of "Google UK".

When I use the URL bar to search, it comes up with german sites instead of English too. I've tried everything and it is still stuck in German, any help?

Thanks.

Gesundheit. 😛

So, let's go through "everything" you've tried. In uninstalling Chrome have you eliminated all traces from the file system and registry? There are special uninstaller programs designed to clean up the traces that programs tend to leave behind. Also, consider a system restore to a restore point from before the VPN was installed. Your files shouldn't be affected but programs could be.

Okay, I have deleted everything from history & cookies etc (What comes up when Ctrl+Shift+Del is pressed). I have reinstalled chrome as said. (However the problem also affects my MS Edge). I have uninstalled VPN as stated. I have tried setting default search engine to google.co.uk instead of .de and I have also tried setting my homepage to .co.uk too. And all to no avail.

What do you see when you right-click the network icon in the tray and go to Network and Sharing center? Also go to Settings>Network and Internet>Status>View your Network Properties? If we can't manually find and remove the offending setting the system restore utility is a step to try before the nuclear option (back up and wipe).

UPDATE: Back to GERMAN!

Verdammt! Well nothing in those windows looks wonky. In the Settings utility, under Network and Internet > Status there's a "network reset" link. Give that a try.

Unfortunately, this didnt work

Alright, can you remember when you installed the VPN? If you do, I'll suggest you look for a restore point before that time and restore Windows to that point. Your files won't be affected, but programs modified after that point could be. Click the start menu (or hit the windows flag button on the keyboard) and begin to type "create a restore point." That will bring up system restore in the control panel window where you can look for available restore points. To see those further back than the one or two it shows right away by looking for a link near the bottom of the window 'look for more restore points' or something to that effect.
