Browsing speed too slow, after closing the torrent client.

Lately I am having some download speed issues.

I will try and be as specific as possible.

I use qbittorrent client for my torrent downloads. (the below issue has been replicated with many torrent clients)

The download and upload speeds are pretty good, around 4.5MB/s and 1.3 MB/s respectively.

When I Limit the download speed to 300kb/s for example, the internet speed I get while browsing with either mozilla or chrome, is too slow. Most of the times, I cannot even connect to a simple web page.

Even when I close the qbittorrent client, the internet speed stays too slow for about 10 mins more or less every time.

I've been busting my head around this issue for a while now.

Any ideas?

Best Regards,

M.

Well, then that's probably in the router settings; or your anti-virus trying to scan everything as it comes in? I'm not exactly an expert on this, I...
You could try clearing out the temp folders for Mozilla or Chrome in %appdata% (windows file directory, just type in in the my documents bar) but...

It could be your internet service provider noticing the torrent download and throttling your speed. ISPs do that sometimes. I don't think it's legal, but I could be wrong depending on where you're from. I am no expert in that regard, so I can't help much further.

I believe that is not the case because my brother is using a Mac and does not have such speed issues. So I am guessing it has to do something with some configuration.

Also, it's not impossible that the ISP slows down the specific port or lane your PC uses, especially if the modem is provided by the ISP. To rule this out, try getting a torrent with your brother's Mac and see if that also slows him up.

It seems, that you were right about my Norton anti-virus. I disabled the web protection option and it seems that the issue is fixed or at least the internet is more responsive after closing the torrent client. Thanks a lot!
