BSEL & VID mod Q6700

hey people am thinking of getting a Q6700 to replace my E7400. I have a HP machine with no overclocking options available so I have to rely on BSEL mods. The E7400 has been pin modded to run 10.5 x 133 from its original of 10.5 x 1066, it does not need VID mod to run stable.

Anyone tried this with Q6700, can anyone say with BSEL pin mods or with bios overclocking whether the Q6700 is capable of running its 10x multiplier with 1333 fsb?. there is a VID pin mod to raise the Vcore to 1.4 but am not willing to go higher than that.

ami i dreaming or is this an acceptable expectation for the Q6700?

I have a Xeon x3230 (q6700) that i am running at 3.4Ghz useing 10x340 which is 1360fsb and it's on a Gigabyte P965 DS3 Rev3.3 mobo..
I should have it running at 3.5 soon but i would just get a mobo that allows overclocking before modding the chips to make up for not having the right mobo for the job because there our afew other thing it can overclock like ram/fsb etc.

I've tried just that with 2 different Q6700's. The OEM Q6700 had a VID of 1.325 and required a bump to 1.375 to be stable at 3.333Ghz. The retail Q6700 had a VID of 1.275 and needed a bump to 1.35. Only things changed were FSB and Vcore.

I imagine that after Vdroop 1.4v on your mb would drop to about 1.35-ish, so still within intel's specs for the Q6700. So long as you have a decent cooler on it that will work just fine. Keep an eye on your temps cos it will run a fair bit warmer than the E7400.

Exactly the answers I was seeking! Thank you very much everyone for replying, I knew the answers I needed would be in these forums, now I just have to find myself one of these Q6700's at a decent JUSTIFIABLE price (considering for what I do I am hardly going to notice the extra two cores going from E7400 @3.49Ghz to Q6700 @3.33Ghz)

You still have a little room to increase your voltage - depending on your temperatures. Intel's max recommended temperature for the Q6600 family is 1.45 volts.
