I did not change anything on my PC and it has been running fine for years. All of a sudden I got the BSOD (http://www.thewindowsclub.com/blue-screen-death-windows-10), at the time I just had Chrome open browsing the internet.

Now stuck on the loading operating system screen.

What I've done so far (nothing has worked)

  • Unplugged all usb devices
Created Win 10 usb boot disk and run system restore to a few days ago, still same problem.
Tried to run the repair tool in the same menu (i get an error saying it cant be completed)

Not sure what else I can do, Im really hoping i dont have to do a fresh install as I have a sh*t ton of software installed that I need.

Hoping you can advise :)

so you run system restore and start up repair?

using that boot disc, follow these instructions till they start talking about a recovery disc: http://www.thewindowsclub.com/repair-master-boot-record-mbr-windows

if that fixes it, can you also do this once you get into win 10:

Can you follow option one here: http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/5560-bsod-minidump-configure-create-windows-10-a.html
and then do this step below: Small memory dumps - Have Windows Create a Small Memory Dump (Minidump) on BSOD

that creates a file in c/windows/minidump
copy that file to documents
upload the copy from documents to a cloud server and share the link here and someone will help you fix it :)

If Startup Repair didn't work, you'll need to reformat the machine. I don't know if you're backing up or what you're using but you may want to start backing up. My recommendation is a snapshot tool like Rollback Rx or a disk imager like Macrium Reflect (Both free!)

ive followed the cmd promt instructions and it couldnt find any installations on any drives and going through the other tasks it just said they had all been completed successfully. Rebooting the pc after and have the same problem.

Is there a way I can back up my software from this same command prompt and then just reinstall windows?

Unfortunately not. Without a backup, reformatting is your only other option but moving forward I would definitely recommend having a backup.
