I'm trying to help out a friend of mine who decided to update his drivers and is now getting a BSOD on every login, after entering his password.

The error is "SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION Gdrv3.sys"

This issue is prevalent and a lot of people have had it, but they all seem to be able to boot into Windows and just uninstall the related Gigabyte software. However, even in safe mode, we don't seem to be able to start Windows. Same crash after entering password.

Any ideas on what else to do?

You could try reinstalling windows with a usb. Select custom install to keep personal files and see if you can bypass the offending Gigabyte problem. If not, you may have to reinstall Windows completely. One more thing you can try is to update your bios version first to see if that helps at all.

The Gdrv3.sys driver is a component of the Gigabyte Easy Tune tool, so the first step would be to start Windows in Safe Mode, which will stop this driver being loaded, and uninstall Easy Tune whilst in Safe Mode. That should allow the systemn to boot normally.

How did your friend update the drivers? From where were the driver updates sourced?
