Recently(1 month) built a computer and has suddenly started blue screening ~5 minutes into gaming sessions(Warthunder, BF3, Witcher3). I recently moved into an apartment with a higher ambient temp. The BSOD is coupled with an endless loop of the same 1/2 second audio.

BlueScreenView says it is due to ntoskrnl.exe

I've read through threads recommending that i run my ram through prime95 and keep an eye on the temperature of my graphics card. Since I've got a pretty good power supply and the BSOD only occurs when in the middle of a gaming sesh, I speculate that it is due to my graphics card overheating.

Thanks for reading. Any ideas or suggestions from y'all would be greatly appreciated 😀.

Solution
My friend recently was getting the same blue screens with this motherboard but what seems to be a common thing is that many of these AsRock motherboards have a very early BIOS version. Updating to the latest November BIOS version (1.80) seems to have fixed all of the BSOD issues for my friend. I would especially recommend doing this if you are running Windows 10 as alongside the normal stability issues, many Windows 10 issues were fixed as well.

install a program like "open hardware monitor". It also keeps a record of the highest temperatures.
get a test program like "OCCT" to test your graphics card and cpu.
Try "memtest" to test your memory, your fault looks like a memory problem, or a bad driver trying to access an occupied part of the ram.

Hi, thanks for replying. So you think it's a problem with a bad ram stick? I will go ahead and try a memory test and look into "OCCT". Should i be using memtest86 or prime 95...?

I also have realtemp, HWmonitor, and MSI afterburner installed at the moment.

I agree with Ger .. monitor system temperatures (I use Lavalys Everest or HWMonitor is good).
I also thought about a memory issue but I doubt your RAM is a problem. Graphic driver issues
is very possible. Try the latest official driver for your card, or try rolling back a few.

Hi
After the bsods started happening, I would periodically check in on my gpu temps and they looked like they were hitting up to 63 C. Does hwmonitor log Temps? I know that you can take 'snapshots' so to say of your current temperatures.

Also, I have a micro atx case with 3 120mil intakes and 1 120mil exhaust. The case is quite crowded and the xfx card is not a blower style card, so I could see things getting a little toasty

Hi, for memory, memtest is the way to go.
You can also try temporary remove one memory stick.
It doesn't necessary have to be a bad ram stick, could also be a bad driver, or miss-configuration of the ram.
Also make sure to check the "max" values of your monitoring program (i use openhardwaremonitor).
Temperature drops very fast after stopping a game or test program.

ok, i just booted up battlefield 3. I played for 40 minutes- no crash & no blue screen, but a few minutes after getting out of the game and sitting on the desktop i got a BAD_POOL_HEADER blue screen.

Ok, I ran memtest86 4.3.7 yesterday afternoon for ~ 10 hours. I got through 6 iterations and 3 passes with 0 errors.

This is really interesting, I will go ahead and try updating

yeah, for sure man. Also, Is there a program i can use to test the integrity of an older HDD? I have a seagate 3tb 7200 rpm laying around.

Ok, I updated the as rock H170m pro 4 board bios to v1.8 (november). I haven't had a blue screen since then. I will keep running my system and see if anything else shows up. Thanks so much guys

No worries! I just hope all goes well from now on :)
