So yea, I have a newly built PC, built it just 4 days ago and I have been welcomed with this horrid bug. At first I didn't know what it is, the reason of crashes narrowed down until only this stood out and now I need to know how to fix it.
dxgkrnl.sys
dxgmms1.sys
nvlddmkm.sys
Those demonic things are causing all this hell.

Computer specs:
Windows 7 Home Premium
AMD 8-Core processor FX-8350
Geforce GTX-660
Corsair Vengeance DDR3 8 GB Ram (2 X 4 GB)
Corsair 750 WATT PSU
ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0 AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard

It happens repeatedly at any random time. When i'm browsing the web its less frequent but when playing a game it crashes either upon loading, upon joining a game, or maybe later into the game. It's REALLY annoying and I have already tried rolling back my drivers but I don't know what the problem is anymore. ANY help at all would be needed.
|Important|: One solution I have come to is upgrading to Windows 8. If you can assure me that doing this upgrade will fix this problem; then I already have my answer.

Trust me, that was the first thing I did and the problem still persists. I am using the latest stable version for Nvidia (Version 327.23)

microsoft did a update of the file but did not make people reboot and installed on the next reboot. if you used the nvidia installer then rebooted. the microsoft OS copied over the older file on top of the newer one and caused a version mismatch with the other drivers. best to reboot, uninstall the entire driver, reboot and reinstall the driver from nvida to ensure you have a matched set of drivers.

Hmm. I believe I tried this but i'm not entirely sure.. What I did was I went into Device Manager, went into graphics and uninstalled the driver entirely. Reboot and ran Driver Sweeper in safe mode, then re-installed. I did this just recently and i'm not sure if it has fixed the situation. By this I mean no crash has happened (YET!!) I will test this by playing some sort of game then get back to you. And to add in when I installed the drivers I remembered to always choose clean installation.
(EDIT: ) Yep the game crashed. As I hit the play button it launched and BSOD.

oh, a fresh install of windows 7 would be very out of date untill all of the OS updates and service packs have been applied. just keep running the check for windows updated and rebooting until all the updates are installed.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/179113 has a direct link to the updated directx files that were listed in your post.

Alright.. From the looks of it Windows seems to be up-to-date. And I ran a check to see if the problem persists and it indeed does. And direct X is up to date aswell.

cool, put a copy of the mini dump file on the cloud (skydrive will work) and give it public access and I will take a quick look

Hmm will Whocrashed or BluescreenViewer logs work aswell?
_EDIT_ Here: https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=298da0b82b7b5572#cid=298DA0B82B7B5572

both of them will make a quick stab at the problem, give them a try
The windows debugger will allow better control of what you are checking for but people never want to set it up
and don't know how to run it. All of the programs require access to the minidump.

I put the skydrive in the last post but heres the logs from Bluescreenview. Also in skydrive. Leil.

And before we jump to more things, the computer recently crashed about... 25 min's ago but when I checked the logs for something there was nothing. The computer just rebooted itself when I tried to run a game (And sometimes randomly) So i'm a little curious and why no logs showed up. Maybe the old problem fixed and a new one emerged?..
_EDIT_ Now im confused. I found the second problem and I know what it is: it's something to do with my power. But my PSU is a 750 WATT Bronze Certified! I know it can run the entire system with no problem... I need options before I go spend $100 on another PSU.

Nevermind. Seems that I fixed the problem I had at the start of this topic I have fixed with the help of johnbl. My new problem was my PSU was damaged when Amazon shipped it to me. Fucking amazon bro. I'm pending my replacement soon.

Same problem here! How did you fix the first problem?

BSOD
dxgkrnl.sys
dxgmms1.sys
nvlddmkm.sys

dxgkrnl.sys+5d140

using gforce xp 334.89 driver on my gtx 660
win 7 pro

with older drivers same problem...

Same problem here...

BSOD
dxgkrnl.sys+5d140
dxgmms1.sys+37f00
nvlddmkm.sys+993b10

using gtx 670 with latest and older drivers same problem...
win 7 pro *64 reinstalled 3 times... same problem...
Graphics card sent back to the manufacturer, same problem with the new...

Have this same problem, is this something happening recently to a lot of us? ASUS Nvidia GeForce 550TI

I just had this crash a few minutes ago and I am using an old driver on purpose because I cannot get the control panel for nvidia to work otherwise , I was playing a game of Defiance online and an hour into it I start seeing the very fabric of the game stretching towards me like some kinda acid trip! then I log out and the windows screen with my background and icons is all weirded like a tie dyed t-shirt!. Ive got all three of the same bsods you have exactly the dxgkrnl.sys, the dxgmms1.sys and the nvlddkm.sys and the dxgkrnl.sys+5d140. I have an EVGA gtx550 ti superclocked +72 mhz graphics card and it has always done fine with any game I have thrown at it for the past year and a half , what I think we are seeing evidence of is the Nvidia corporation and whoever else are slowly putting graphics in their games so as to cause older cards to malfunction or cause bsods , this is the sneaky way the industry forces us to upgrade to their expensive ass cards that we don't even need yet. It really makes me angry. I hope I am wrong but what I have experienced in this life I gotta say , it probably isn't as crazy or far fetched as it sounds.

Same problem here, I crashed yesterday.

My BSOD:

Code bug: 0x00000116

dxgkrnl.sys+5d140
dxgmms1.sys+ff13
nvlddmkm.sys+153e20

I use Windows 7 x64 and I have an GTX 560 Ti OC (with DVI).

I tried to fix this problem:
First attempt: Uninstalling the graphic drivers (Panel control > Device Management > Display adapters) in safe mode (F8, first option), next with normal mode auto install Micorsoft Ghaphic drivers, when you restart the PC with normal mode crashed again...

Second attempt: Uninstalling the graphic drivers in safe mode, next with normal mode auto install Micorsoft Ghaphic drivers, next uninstalling Micorsoft Ghaphic drivers, next installing last drivers Nvidia, when you restart the PC with normal mode crashed again...

Third attempt: I tried with older drivers Nvidia, same problem....

Is a problem from Nvidia drivers or is my problem?

I'm having the same problem as well.

dxgkrnl.sys dxgkrnl.sys+5d134
dxgmms1.sys dxgmms1.sys+37f3c
nvlddmkm.sys nvlddmkm.sys+9a57a0

It seems I only crash reliably when playing ArcheAge open beta (yeah I know it's a beta) but I also had this problem while playing minecraft. I have done a fresh OS install and have yet to put minecraft back on there. I have done clean installs of the nvidia driver several times, checked the hard drive, made sure the temperatures were reasonable for my cpu and gpu, made sure there was no fluctuations in my power supply, and probably more things than I can remember.

Well, I hate to burst the "AMD graphics bubble," but I'm running into the same issue and I've got an AMD GPU...

Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
AMD FX-8350
Radeon HD 7870 running 4 screens with 3 as 1 Eyefinity
16GB G.SKILL Ripjaws RAM
ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0
SanDisk 256GB SSD

So, similar to OP's system except for graphics card. The only other major difference is *when* I get the BSoD. It only ever happens when I wake the computer from sleep. Since that was previously my standard method of "shutting down," I'm pretty pissed about this error. I also don't get as much info on the blue screen as you guys, just that it's dxgkrnl.sys and a bunch of address data. My best guess was that it was related to DirectX, but since that's built into Windows 7, there's no real way to uninstall it without a fresh install of Windows and I'm not ready for that. And yes, I've gotten the latest drivers/Catalyst from AMD's website. Did it twice, in fact. I've also got Windows completely updated; including all the crap that came down last night.

Another solution that I've seen for similar BSoDs was that Fast Boot might be the culprit, but I just disabled that and checked before posting here and that didn't fix it. The last two things that have been suggested to me are things I'd already thought about: bad SSD or bad RAM. I've tested them with SeaTools and memtest86, respectively and I've seen no errors after many rounds a piece.

I'm up for blaming the DirectX people, not the graphics card manufacturers... Microsoft should know about this by now! Haha!

Anyway, not much help, but it might be useful for you to know it's not just an nVidia issue. 😉 Oh, and last, but not least, I have a 530W PSU (80 PLUS Bronze Cert) on an APC UPS, and I've never had any issues with either when gaming full-tilt for hours.

directx is microsoft mapping layer between windows and the vendors graphics driver
all graphics bugchecks will be in the directx code or the vendors graphics driver. Any vendors graphics driver
AMD or nvidia.

when microsoft messes up directx they get hundreds of thousands of automated bug reports the next day. They tend to make fixes pretty fast it the problem is in their code. They push out the fix via windows update. Problem is when it is in the vendors code they give the data to the vendor, the vendor makes a fix an puts it on their website and you have to go find it.
(fun little process, microsoft can not push out the vendors fix without permission for legal reasons)

You should post your problem on a different thread, It gets pretty confusing with several people talking about different systems on the same thread.

I'm getting the same bluescreen on wake-up, and I've also got an FX-8350 CPU, Radeon 7950 GPU, and a Corsair 750TX P/S. Will let you know if I solve the problem.

This discussion seems to be pretty drawn out. I was absolutely dazed at how many comments were made but I didn't stumble on anyone who received a solution to the Dxgkrnl.sys error. Anyways, I won't be wordy but I will leave some information that should be able to provide help.

All the best.

Hello... All my experience with BSOD is due to a Hardware communication, interrupting between the MB and Windows.
1) Make sure you have no un-happy hardware drivers in your "Device Manager"... No Yellow or Red icon indicators
2) Clean all card/stick edges with rubbing alcohol... And Re-insert cards.
3) Inspect and clean all DATA and Power connections... to your Hardware and MB.
4) Verify all devices CPU/GPU/MB temperatures are with in Normal operating temperatures.
5) Verify your Power Supply 12Vdc has enough current , To operate your Video Card and CPU, at the Performance setting you are using.
6) Test One Part at a time in a known Good Computer.

BSOD are tuff problems too solve... and sometimes takes all those steps I listed to get rid of them... Sometimes it can be simple fix by a BIO Setting/Driver/Software Removal/Preference Settings.

TO PROVE it is the Hardware ( FOR ME ) means installing a Fresh WIN 7 SP1 RAW ISO ( NO UPDATES ) install on a spare Hardrive with just Device Drivers will verify this... If you Blue screen with this, your hardware has a problem communicating with the MB. http://www.w7forums.com/threads/official-windows-7-sp1-...
