This isn't on my PC, but a friend of mine who I'm paying a visit tomorrow to try and fix his PC. I only know what he's told me, and I'll explain as much as I can here.
According to my friend, on August 6th he got a BSOD, and every day since he's been getting BSOD's every 4-5 hours. The thing with the BSOD's he's getting, is apparently they don't display an error, and disappear almost immediately. Using BlueScreenViewer and a program built into Windows (the name escapes me right now, Reliability Monitor maybe?), both programs only detected one BSOD out of the dozen or so he's received, this being be the first one from August 6th, with the error CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED. I tried a bunch of troubleshooting with him over Skype last night, with nothing working. Running sfc /scannow showed absolutely 0 issues, and all drivers are up to date according to the Device Manger. According to my friend though, the device "Generic PnP Monitor" has the error sign next to it at some point, but he didn't explain how he resolved that or how he realized it was an issue. Not sure if that means anything or not, but though I'd include it.
I also updated the chipset drivers for his FX-6300, which solved nothing.
The part about this whole situation I find strange is how Windows isn't storing any logs from the BSOD after the first one, clearly something is up here.
I also found a thread on Reddit with someone with a somewhat similar issue, and everyone said it was most likely the ram, so I have a thumb drive with memtest86 on it in gonna run on his PC.
I now ask, given all this information, would could be a potential issue and what steps should I take to try and fix this? I plan to run memtest86 as stated before, and I plan to stress test the CPU, GPU, and test the hardrive for issues. What else should I do to try and get this fixed?
Specs
FX-6300
GTX 960
