Question BSOD issues on a month old computer

Hey all, I was wondering if someone could help me get to the bottom of these BSOD issues I've been having.

I was gifted a PC built by my partner at Christmas, it was running great for about a month, and then I started to get BSOD's maybe 1-2 times a day, typically "KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE". I couldn't get to the bottom of it, so I decided reinstalling windows would fix the issue, so I did a "Windows Reset" via the cloud option. The problem was still there, this time I was getting "IRQL_NOT_LESS_EQUAL". I think it happens when I'm watching something on Youtube or playing a game.

Here's what i've done to try fix the issue:

  • Updated BIOS from 1.00 to 1.80
  • Run memtest64 for about 6 hours or so, which resulted in 0 errors
  • Reseated the ram
  • Had XMP profile on and off
  • "Reset" Windows 10 via cloud
  • sfc /scannow multiple times, a couple of times it's repaired some corrupt files
  • DDU'd Nvidia drivers, and reinstalled with the clean install option
  • Chipset drivers, LAN drivers, Audio drivers etc from the motherboard website are all installed
  • Stress tests on CPU and GPU
I'm not confident with overclocking so I haven't touched that. The BSOD's have weird frequency, maybe 1-2 times a day, or once over two days. I have no idea how to get it to BSOD so narrow the issue down. The one's I usually get are the kernel security check failure, irql not less or equal, and a new one that I got today which is "APC_INDEX_MISMATCH"

This is the complete build: pcpartpicker

These are the 5 latest dumps I have;

I would really really appreciate any help anyone can give me, I'm pretty miserable with my computer at the moment and don't feel like I can enjoy it fully 😭

i will send links to a friend who will convert them for me. He will post later, should be asleep now

have you tried running with just 1 set of ram in PC?
even though both sets are exact same speeds, and latency (since they same ram) there is no guarantee they will work together. Its why they sell sets of 4 sticks.

I have a single set in the computer now, I'll update the thread if I come across another BSOD or not, and I'll keep an eye out for your friend!

Thanks for your help so far

You have the latest BIOS already installed, and just recently updated to it.

Thanks guys! I will try that now and get back to you when I see a BSOD or not.

My first set of ram gave me a BSOD very soon after booting up, I swapped those out and put the other set in, just to see if there's a bad ram stick. I also have some ram from my previous PC to use also.

Just an update from me, I tested the ram multiple times, and even used a completely different set of ram, and I was still getting BSOD's. I completely wiped my SSD clean and reinstalled Windows from USB. It was working perfectly fine for maybe 3-4 days, and now it's acting up again. This time I got a BSOD from "wdf01000.sys"?

Here's the dump file for my BSOD on a fresh windows install. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1JuiXCTeH_WVblHMA9cFI2gteXvkMv_m5/view?usp=sharing

Any help or ideas would be amazing! This is giving me such a headache, I don't know how to pinpoint what exactly is causing all of this.

i used to like irq errors. They seemed to be easiest to solve when i first started doing this, but as I learned more, they became less obvious and now i don't like any BSOD errors.

if its caused by a driver, we don't have a big choice

Since I assume you haven't updated any drivers from Asrock website, I would go do that as it might help.
grab the AMD chipset driver at very least.
update realtek lan drivers
https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/B550 Steel Legend/index.asp#Download

see if thats all you need. Slowly update to see if it helps.

Thanks for the help! Just seeing this now sorry, i'll go over the drivers again. I just got this BSOD today, haven't seen it before "APC_INDEX_MISMATCH " here's the dump for it. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1TwqAdO5G9oIylSlX-FaUVqkb0yTYpezE/view?usp=sharing It happened while I was playing a game if that helps at all.

I have the Realtek, AMD chipset, and the lan drivers installed from ASROCK, do I need any other from the download list on the website, like the VGA driver etc?

No, i would have mentioned them if I thought you needed them :)
try newer realtek drivers, clearly Asrock are slow, the newest are this year, not Jan last year... 3rd link down under windows - https://www.realtek.com/en/componen...0-1000m-gigabit-ethernet-pci-express-software
Amazed Icue is that old, but they probably just update the launcher. Latest version is 3.37.140

I just wanted to update, since i think my problem is solved? (touch wood).

So I tried to overclock my ram to 3600, which the Ballistix ram is capable of, but that gave me even more BSOD's. So I thought to go the other way and underclock it to 3000. Doing this, I haven't had a single BSOD for nearly a week of intensive gaming and being on for long periods of time.

I checked the ASROCK website and saw that the board only supports my specific Ballistix ram at 3000 speed. Where as other brands like Corsair etc are supported at 3600.

Am I to assume the default speed the motherboard was setting it at was giving me BSOD's?

If anything changes i'll update again, but I just wanted to thank Colif and gardenman for their help!

Ok, spoke to soon, BSOD's are back :[ 1 with same ram, two with different ram altogether

The usual IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and one DRIVER_IRL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Here's the dump files;

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1iPYcic4S5Fv1HBMa3054f5YDfnOYxox4/view?usp=sharing
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1h5yz-31gPfreUUwDlEVRNP0s35RVW03d/view?usp=sharing
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1iJq7X3u6bVoNsriZw5MeXATv1043LXwm/view?usp=sharing

Any ideas? Losing hope with this computer, it's becoming a large source of anxiety for me right now 😩 The most frustrating thing is that I can't pinpoint what exactly is causing it.

I feel like a lot of these happen when the computer has been idle for a couple of hours.

1st error is a USB device
it mentions hidclass which is used for USB like Keyboard/Mice
mentions USBXHCI which is USB Extensible Host controller interface
Last 2 errors not so helpful.

now there is a known problem with USB and B550 boards - https://www.techspot.com/news/88695...nnectivity-issues-x570-b550-motherboards.html but i don't see any of those devices in your driver listing

what usb devices do you have?
might be newer version of Icue

My USB's are an anne pro 2 keyboard, and corsair harpoon RGB mouse. I've tried with Icue installed and not installed, and I still get BSOD's

I feel like the crashes are getting worse now, a couple of times the computer just freezes with no BSOD. And BSOD'd come very quickly now. Here's two more dumps;

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1qeBPVt95XUg3cFd4NG8IB72AXd5jFh91/view?usp=sharing
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1a-JmCQ-mHQpJUrbymG46E73N0jdmLLGM/view?usp=sharing

edit: two more, today has not been a good day.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1EFTsJtEdMhSHVg6tlAJtPQUMNK4I6Cjw/view?usp=sharing

I feel like this isn't a driver issue at all? I've installed windows 3 times now, and updated every driver I can think of. I've checked 3 different sticks of ram now and no improvements. Could the CPU or motherboard be the culprit? I was wondering if it's a voltage issue on the cpu? I don't know how to isolate the problem and know exactly what is causing it.
