BSOD - Kernel Data Inpage Error Help

Hi folks, back again,

I have read other posts here and tried avarious methods but still having no joy.

Started getting BSOD about 2 weeks ago and it's happening a few times a day now. Can't put my finger on any software that may have caused it,

I have tried both a RAM test and a HDD test and both came back clean.

Can any of you wizards give me one of those things I can run and post back and see if you see something I just won't?

Any guidance and help appreciated.

What RAM test and HDD test did you run?

a kernel in page error means that a driver needed something from the hard drive and the drive did not respond or the data was corrupted as it was moved from the drive to the system memory.

generally, you would update the motherboard drivers from the motherboard vendor. just because there are common bugs in the sata controller drivers. You would then download and run crystaldiskinfo.exe and read the smart data from the drive. this will help determine if the drive is causing the errors.

-sometimes a drive data cable can come loose and just needs to be reseated.
- sometimes a drive can develop problems on certain sectors of the drive. It might be helpful to go into control panel and turn off virtual memory and rename your hidden c:\pagefile.sys to c:\pagefile.old and turn on your virtual memory again so it is created on new sectors of your hard drive.

windows 8.x and above will try scan drives for failing sectors and will mark them as bad and move the data if it can. most mechanical drives fail at about 25% the first year, then 15% chance each year after that until the drive just stops working. after 5 years you start to get to the end of life for the drive.

There are also driver bugs that can cause this same type of failures, looking at the memory dump can help.
it is located a c:\windows\minidump directory you can put it on a cloud server like Microsoft onedrive, and share it for public access and post a link. the bugcheck data will contain a error code. The error code can indicate the cause of the problem. Also, the driver list might show common drivers that can cause problems.

generally, I think you get this bugcheck if the drive does not respond within 30 seconds

I ran chkdsk and windows memory diagnostic with both coming back clean.

I hope I have done this correct. This is the most recent dump from yesterday, if you need previous ones please let me know.

HD Tune hung when it got to the last 6 blocks but I imagine they would have come back OK as the picture will show the pattern. I'm not an expert but I imagine the red blocks are bad news.

The red blocks are not the worst concern, the performance is.
The bad sectors could be, or have already been, replaced with chkdsk, but with the performance most actions will take quite a long time.

Replace the hard drive a.s.a.p., backup all personal data if you haven't yet.

Thanks for your help, The prices I've seen for a new hard drive are sky high and makes sense to just run it until it dies and replace it with a new laptop. I will be sure to save any important docs to my one drive though - thanks.

In that case, I would advice to run as minimum software on it as possible. This will reduce the risk of possible lost data forgotten to backup when it becomes unbootable.

A FYI, the time it takes for a hard drive to die from the point you're at varies a lot. It is possible that the drive can run another few weeks to even a few months. As we're talking about the spinning mechanism failing, having a minimum amount of programs may increase the time period compared to having a lot of programs.
