[SOLVED] BSOD occasionally when restarting

I've been experiencing the BSOD when I sometimes restart my laptop once in a while. My system specs have a relatively old processor, the AMD A6-7310, and my brand is HP. Most drivers, software, and BIOS are updated routinely. The bug check code I received was 0x00000133 and was caused by the driver ntoskrnl.exe. The address was ntoskrnl.exe+3f5c50. Initially, I thought it was memory-related, and I did a test and it came back normal, and I have a 12GB supply of ram for my laptop.

I also ran any malware that I might have, a disk check via CMD, and I think it may be driver related. I ran WinDbg and it stated it was caused by partmgr.sys and failure bucket ID: 0x133_DPC_partmgr!PmIoCompletion. These are some instances where it occurred along with my minidump. I assume it's storage related, and I'm wondering if updating my OS software would help, since the crash indicates a previous OS, compared to my current KB5000802 version.

crash dump file: C:\WINDOWS\MEMORY.DMP
This was probably caused by the following module: storport.sys (storport!storportsetdevicequeuedepth+0x4e41)
Bugcheck code: 0x133 (0x0, 0x501, 0x500, 0xFFFFF80475AFB320)
Error: DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION
file path: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\storport.sys
product: Microsoft® Windows® Operating System
company: Microsoft Corporation
description: Microsoft Storage Port Driver
Bug check description: The DPC watchdog detected a prolonged run time at an IRQL of DISPATCH_LEVEL or above. This could be caused by either a non-responding driver or non-responding hardware. This bug check can also occur because of overheated CPUs (thermal issue).
The crash took place in a storage driver or controller driver. Since there is no other responsible driver detected, this could be pointing to a malfunctioning drive or corrupted disk. It's suggested that you run CHKDSK.

The crash took place in the Windows kernel. Possibly this problem is caused by another driver that cannot be identified at this time.

weird, your images just show as blank to me

crash is all hard drive actions
CLASSPNP - Windows scsi driver
Partmgr & storport also in there as we knew.

on newer systems AMD even say not to use these
Apr 30 2015amdxata.sysAMD Storage Filter System driver
May 14 2015amdsata.sysAMD SATA AHCI System driver
But your system may fall into the category that uses them
Desktop systems based on AMD 6-Series, 7-Series, 8-Series, 9-Series, Socket AM4, and Socket TR4 chipsets running Windows® 10 should use the Microsoft provided Standard SATA AHCI Controller driver that comes installed with Windows® by default.
...
storport.sys is used with your hard drive or nvme, I can't tell what you have in that regard even if I could read dumps.
So what drives are in PC?
partmgr.sys = partition manager.

NTOSKRNL = windows kernel. It handles all driver requests, power management, and memory management. It sits between Hardware and Applications. It got blamed but its not the cause - its almost always mentioned in BSOD.

I can ask a friend to check dumps, but who crashed may have shown enough to figure it out

It's a Toshiba MQ01ABF050 500 GB 5400 rpm SATA drive. I know my hard drive is the cause of it, but I don't know how to fix the crash.

Hi, welcome to the forums. I ran the dump file through the debugger and got the following information: https://jsfiddle.net/y6txuqhv/show This link is for anyone wanting to help. You do not have to view it. It is safe to "run the fiddle" as the page asks.

File information:Minidump.dmp (Dec 13 2021 - 21:44:09)
Bugcheck:DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION (133)
Probably caused by:memory_corruption (Process: System)
Uptime:0 Day(s), 0 Hour(s), 00 Min(s), and 59 Sec(s)

Comment: 2 or more types of RAM are installed. This is common in laptops.

System: HP Notebook

This information can be used by others to help you. Someone else will post with more information. Please wait for additional answers. Good luck.

In the IDE ATA/ATAPI device manager, I have the AMD SATA Controller installed along with the AMD MMC/eMMC Host Controller. Would reverting back to the standard Microsoft drivers fix my hard drive crash? What do I do with the amdxata.sys file within my drivers folder in System32?

Running !stacks the only running threads were nt!KiIdleLoop+0x176, nt!PpmIdleGuestExecute+0x1d, nt!PpmIdleGuestExecute+0x1d, and nt!PpmIdleGuestExecute+0x1d.

Some drivers that weren't able to load were RTKVHD64, WdFilter, amdpsp, amdfendr, SynTP, and amdkmdag.

I assume stacks is a command in windowsdbg
ppm is part of power management for CPU
looks like CPU was doing nothing.

RTKVHD64 = Realtek Sound drivers
amdpsp = AMD Platform Security Program - it runs secure boot and fTPM among other things. It runs boot processes.
amdfendr = AMD Crash Defender
amdkmdag = AMD GPU Drivers
SynTP = appears to be for a Synaptic touchpad

wdilfter.sys is part of windows defender

I was getting BSOD's from this a number of years back, ended up doing a system restore and it solved it. I suspect it appeared after a windows update.
It seems to be an update from February, but I can't find that update in question or uninstall it. I also don't have any restore points. Would updating to a feature update fix it?

What makes you say that? Is that when it started or do you know for sure that it was an update?

Updating windows with an in place upgrade might work, but I can't guarantee anything. It's similar to the old repair windows install and goes to town on windows.

Have you tried startup repair? It's like a lite version of that.

In WinDbg the image name is partmgr.sys, which is the root cause of my crash, it's version is 10.0.19041.789 (KB4598291). My current OS version is 19041.867 (KB5000802),

I replaced my AMD SATA drive with the Microsoft standard version instead, and for the most part I haven't received any BSOD when restarting or turning on my laptop.

lets hope that is the fix
partmgr.sys is partition manager so it is drive related. replacing sata drivers might have been all you needed to do.

Sorry if i seemed to stop replying, we hard bad weather here and I don't turn PC on during it.
