When I plug in any external drive windows straight away says there's a problem with the drive and needs to scan and fix. It scans and doesn't find anything. This message continues to appear periodically as long as the drive is plugged in. Then when I turn off my computer, the next time I start it I get an instant blue screen of death (0xc000000c I think) everytime. Even if the drive is no longer plugged in. Turning off the pc by the power button then turning it back on causes it to boot fine no problem, and windows has no recollection of the blue screen. Even software designed to detect blue screens detects no issues whatsoever.

Solution
oic its a boot loader error.. windows isn't loaded so its can't save any dump files.

Okay then, I think I know this one
On another PC, download the Windows 10 media creation tool and use it to make a win 10 installer on USB << if you don't already have one
change boot order so USB is first, hdd second
boot from installer
on screen after languages, choose repair this pc, not install.
choose troubleshoot
choose advanced
Choose command prompt and enter these 4 command at step 4 (one at a time): http://www.thewindowsclub.com/repair-master-boot-record-mbr-windows

that might fix it for you :)
No valid crash dumps have been found on your computer.

I have tried blue screen view too and it doesn't even recognise that a blue screen has even occured. yet i cannot plug in hard drives without windows saying there's a problem with the drive.
