My computer is currently BSOD'ing on every boot up, giving me a STOP Error 0x7b, which I am aware is an inaccessible boot device.

(Exact error is: stop error : 0x0000007B (0xFFFFF880009A9928, 0xFFFFFFFFC0000034, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000))

All my research tells me given those parameters, it's faulty/corrupt/missing HDD Controller drivers.

I've gone into BIOS, checked what the Serial ATA's Controller being set to (IDE/Raid/AHCI), this didn't fix anything (but also, will only boot after i do some fixing in IDE)

I've ran Windows Start Up Repair, it cannot fix it on it's own. (The error was Error 490, but I don't have all the info handy from the last time I've ran it).

I cannot do a Restore (completely different problem I've discovered).

I cannot normal boot, or any variation of safe mode, but I can "Boot with last known good configuration". So I can at least load that way, and after loading, everything is completely stable.

Upon boot, it installs drivers for:
ASUS BC-08B1LT ATA Device (my Blu-Ray connected through SATA)
ATA Channel 0 x2
ATA Channel 1 x2
Standard Dual Channel PCI ICE Controller x2
WDC WD1002FAEX-00Z3A0 ATA Device.

This further leads me to believe that my problem is from these drivers.

In device manager, i cannot roll back any drivers, and all "Update Drivers" lead to "Driver is Up to Date" etc.

Hardware is not my strong point in computing, and I've never had to manually change drivers for a HDD Controller. I would assume that would be a motherboard related function?

Am I on the right track that this is what I should be focusing on fixing? Or am I incorrect? How should I proceed?

If I am on the right track, any detailed steps in updating/replacing these drivers would be extremely appreciated. Most driver updating is easy, open package, install, restart, but that is kind of a tricky problem for me currently.

System specs:
OS: Win 7 SP 1 64 bit
CPU: Intel Core i7 950 3.07ghz (quad)
MB: MSI X58 PRO-E
HD: 1TB Western Digital SATA-III 64M Cache Single Drive
RAM: 6GB Corsair DDR3-1600
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 - 2GB

Can you please clarify -
ATA Channel 0 x2
ATA Channel 1 x2
Standard Dual Channel PCI ICE Controller x2

The motherboard has no 6gb/s ports, only 3gb/s ports so your hard drive will require a jumper on the second set of pins to convert it to 3gb/s status although, the hdd may actually be backward compatible and the need of a jumper may not be required. Try the hdd in port 0

Otherwise, you may need to acquire a Sata II hdd to comply with the motherboard specification.

Your ram is 6gb, I assume that it is a kit of 3 and not 2 dual and a single.

The ATA Channel 0, 1 etc. are what it tells me my device drivers are installed upon boot.. The x2 is that it appears twice in the list. I'll screencap it next boot to show you.

This HDD has been working fine for a couple of years, this is a new problem. It was originally port zero, and I swapped it around with the Blu-Ray drive. No noticeable difference, same error.

Yes, ram is a kit of 3 2gb sticks.

"The hdd has been working for a couple of years.." on this PC or is it from a different Pc or motherboard?

What brand is the ram (serial number)?
Port 4 & 5 are not for hdd's only other devices.
Put the hdd back to port 0 and blu-ray to port 5
Go to Bios, make the hdd as primary and first boot option then Save & exit
Boot up to Safe mode, wait for system to load then do a clean shut down, not restart.

This is what happens upon (good) boot.

This is the brand of ram, i believe.

I cannot boot to safe mode (all booting blue screens, except "use last known good configuration").
