Hi, on my Windows 10 System, i sometimes get a crash caused by nvlddmkm.sys
It is a Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Card.
Already disabled the nvidia device, uninstalled the driver, verified the nvlddmkm.sys file got deleted, downloaded the latest nvidia installer and reinstalled it. No change.
Windows is up to date.
Dumpfile analysis with WhoCrashed did not reveal much:

On Wed 30/10/2019 19:12:43 your computer crashed or a problem was reported
crash dump file: C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\103019-8812-01.dmp
This was probably caused by the following module: nvlddmkm.sys (0xFFFFF806490D4AE0)
Bugcheck code: 0x116 (0xFFFFD28C0CBC8050, 0xFFFFF806490D4AE0, 0xFFFFFFFFC000009A, 0x4)
Error: VIDEO_TDR_ERROR
file path: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\nvlddmkm.sys
product: NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 440.97
company: NVIDIA Corporation
description: NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 440.97
Bug check description: This indicates that an attempt to reset the display driver and recover from a timeout failed.
A third party driver was identified as the probable root cause of this system error. It is suggested you look for an update for the following driver: nvlddmkm.sys (NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 440.97 , NVIDIA Corporation).
Google query: nvlddmkm.sys NVIDIA Corporation VIDEO_TDR_ERROR

Ideas/Suggestions? :)

Please post your entire system specification including PSU make and model.

The Video TDR Error effectively means that the GPU hung, and when the driver was attempted to be reset, it timed out. Usually when it doesn't time out, you get the "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered. " message.

  • Have you tried reverting back to the previous NVIDIA driver?
  • Are you running any overclock at all?
  • What is your PSU make and model?
  • Have you monitored GPU temps under load?
  • When are the BSOD usually occuring? Only in games for example?

Never had the driver stopped responding message, only the BSOD above.

Most often the BSOD occurs after booting up, in the early minutes of usage. No special application running, casual stuff like chrome browser.
Sometimes but rarely at windows logon screen.

There is no known (to me) good driver version

Its a HP All in One machine with a HP TPC-AA501 external power supply.

GPU Temps not monitored but i did run the FurMark Stresstest (for about 10 minutes only though) without issue. Temp raised to 75° max.

TPC-AA501 = 180W power supply.

All in ones can often cover a variety of models with wildly varying hardware, as well as hardware specs that can change on a year by year and model number by model number basis. This doesnt cover customization options either.

As PC Tailor indicated, specifying your exact hardware could be helpful.

Do it again but instead of using latest Nvidia drivers, run windows update and let windows find drivers for GPU. I could be wrong but i seen latest drivers mess with 10 series cards.

well, PC built into monitor, thats always going to make it difficult. You can't even choose to run monitor off Intel HD graphics since its built into monitor...

Does PC still have a warranty? Have you tried running PC off a linux Live USB to see if linux gets any display errors. Just wondering if its a windows driver problem or hardware. If LInux also had errors we could say its hardware.

Does the PC have diagnostics software? I can't seem to find their driver download site for model.

has warranty, can even get hp on the case, they are just not very competent judging from a previous case with them (see my previous thread :)) after 2 failed repair attempts i almost sued them about getting a replacement machine.. this is the replacement machine lol. its working much better than the first one, to be positive).

from what i understand, nvidia has a generic driver installer for a wide range of models, covering this one

Its always possible a clean install of windows could fix it.

Wait and see what dump files show, but we can already guess what cause is. the Nvidia drivers. Seems rest of drivers must be okay since support assistant only pointed at GPU drivers.

Hi, I ran the dump file through the debugger and got the following information: https://pste.eu/p/wfVV.html

File information:110919-8890-01.dmp (Nov 9 2019 - 07:38:31)
Bugcheck:VIDEO_TDR_ERROR (116)
Driver warnings:*** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for nvlddmkm.sys
Probably caused by:memory_corruption (Process: System)
Uptime:0 Day(s), 0 Hour(s), 04 Min(s), and 21 Sec(s)

The nvlddmkm.sys file is a NVIDIA graphics card driver. There are a few things you can do to fix this problem. First off, try a full uninstall using DDU in Safe Mode then re-install the driver (more information). Or try getting the latest version of the driver. Or try one of the 3 most recent drivers released by NVIDIA. Drivers can be found here: http://www.nvidia.com/ or you can allow Windows Update to download the driver for you, which might be a older/better version.

This information can be used by others to help you. I can't help you with this. Someone else will post with more information. Please wait for additional answers. Good luck.

not often i see a dump scream Nvidia drivers so loudly. But we knew that, I take it the intel HD drivers installed so that you got some picture while nvidia ones disabled.

Gardenmans script about Nvidia is likely auto. As you tried some of that already

Try ubuntu live USB like I suggested, we see if its hardware or software. https://tutorials.ubuntu.com/tutorial/tutorial-create-a-usb-stick-on-windows#0
